Hot and Cold
Ok - yesterday was 66 degrees in Ocean County, NJ while snowed in New Orleans. Today, it's 42 degrees in my town.
Hey Mother Nature - WTF?

Finally!
Well - we got some snow - about 2-3 inches - this morning. People around here were going *nuts*. I swear to God, don't these people remember the snow blizzard we had 11 years ago? Now that was some crazy snow! The Governor closed the roads and no one was allowed to drive.
Husband and I were renting in a really cute duplex in Asbury Park. Yeah, I know Asbury is a dump but the one section where we lived was pretty decent. Husband's car was, at one point, completely buried under the snow. I think I have a picture of him standing on the snow drift that was covering the car. To add more fun to the critical weather conditions, I was 4 1/2 months pregnant. I had no balance to begin with so add some ice and I was slipping and sliding everywhere.
Here's a few pics from a different snowstorm in 2004:

In this picture, Husband had to go out the back door because we were unable to open the front door due to serious snow drifts. He ended up hopping over our 6ft stockade fence because he was unable to open it due to the massive amount of snow piled in front of and behind the gate.

We paid this guy $20 to shovel out all the snow from the end of our driveway and the road. He did it in 10 minutes. If we shovelled it all out ourselves, it would have taken 3 hours. Seriously.

I decided - at 7am - to cancel Eldest's afternoon Girl Scout meeting. It was snowing and looked like it could be a potentially messy situation later today. Of course now, as I glanced out my bedroom window, it's not snowing at all. ::sigh:: Maybe that's not a bad thing as I can just relax at home and work on laundry. Ewww - laundry.
Stay warm people. Enjopy the snow!

Lovin' It!
The cool fall weather.. it's AWESOME! My girls are complaining that it's too cold in the house. When I check the thermostat, it says 70. HA! Better drag out those sweatshirts... this is *my* kind of weather.
Off to Girl Scouts - wheeeeeeee!

Jungle Heat
It is SO disgusting hot today. When I walked outside this morning to take the garbage out, it felt like I was walking into clear pea soup, all thick and sticky. Visibility is lower than usual due to the haze. It's supposed to get to 95 - with no wind and 82% humidity.
Ew.
Well - off to do some errands. I wanted to wait for it to get really hot before I left the house.

Happy When It Rains
At least, I'm happy it's raining today. Otherwise, there was a possibility of 4-6 inches of snow. Thankfully, it's just raining. We should have a wonderful spring and summer season thanks to all this rain.
Youngestis home sick today. She's got a slight temperature and she says her head hurts. I've to go keep an eye on her with her headaches. I know I get some terrible headaches at least twice a week. I've got to visit my doc and see what he recommends for migraines. Any suggestions or recommendations from all you migrasine sufferers out there?
Ive got a Girl Scout badge activity for Youngest's troop today. The school has a half day today and we are meeting at 145pm to work on our PLants Try-It. This should be fun!
Off to clean and do laundry. Guess I should check on the munchkin too.

Let it snow.. let it snow... let it sn...
Crap - it's really snowing outside. We are "supposed" to get anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow. There's a storm moving up from the south. I don't know if it's going to hit us badly or not. According to the Weather Channel, it won't be that bad, just messy in the morning.
In home improvement news, we just had our new fence put up today right before it started snowing. It looks SO much better now. At least our messy back yard is now hidden from view! Husband is hustling along with putting up the insulation and the part for my washer arrived! Yippie! I am SO sick of the laundromat although the past two times I was there, I got whistled at by one of the guys who work at the car wash, which is in the same parking lot. Heh - thanks lil buddy.
The girls had a very busy weekend. Friday night, they were both invited to a birthday sleepover for my niece at my sis in law's house. Youngesthad a Daisy event on Saturday morning at 930am and another birthday party at 330pm. She was grumpy when I picked her up and she was really out of sorts at the Daisy event. She conked out during the card ride home. When I carried her into her room, she didn't want to take off her coat and hat. Okie dokie with me. I pulled off her sneakers and let her nap for almost 2 hours. We had a hard time waking her up- she was so sleepy! But, once I got her to her party (one of her most favorite of friends!), she perked right up and took off with the rest of her running mates.
Did I mention that Youngesthad another party on Sunday too? She *had* to go to this one too. Another special buddy. It was a cute party. The mom hired a woman to come in as "Sleeping Beauty". I spoke to the mom at one point during the party and mentioned to her that she was, in fact, raising the bar for kids parties. We had a good laugh about it but I am already planning Youngest's party for January 14th.
Off to watch Adult Swim, if I can stay awake.

Where's the Ark?
Ugh! Tons and tons of rain.
From weather.com: ".. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME HEAVY RAIN DURING THE WEEK... "
I was going to go out and do some errands. Now, I think it's going to be movie day. I don't even want to leave the house! The girls are watching Annie and I am finally posting after a weekend of silence.
edited to add: Does anyone else cry at the end of Annie or is it just me?
I had originally thought I was at ten thousand comments but I found a ton of spam that I had missed when deleting. So, I have 29 left before I hit the big 10K! C'mon and help a girl out.
Off to care for the kiddies. I know I've got pictures to post. I just have to get off my ass and do them. Soon... I promise..

Perfect weather
It was gorgeous yesterday.. sunny and cool and ZERO humidity. Gotta love that part the most!
We invited a girl (who lives in the house behind us) over to go swimming. She's two years older than Eldest but all three of them got along very well. I invited her to stay for dinner and then, since all our properties are fenced in, we walked her back home around 8pm. Her parents are nice people. We used to have the neighbors from hell who lived behind us. Oh my God, they were awful - crack vials all over, razor blades, paintball guns, BB guns, anywhere from 2-7 dogs and a houseful of children. The original owner died and left the house to his twin dirtbag daughters. Total white trash.
Thank GOD they got booted out of the house. Taxes - you have to pay them every one in a while. Heh. Good frigging riddance.
Anyway, the new people - who've lived there for about two years now - are still doing repairs in the house and yard. Husband has helped them with their pool pump and filter. He's going to help them install a vent fan in their bathroom. He's a great guy - my wonderful husband.
Well - off to relax! I hope all you Dads out there have a wonderful Fathers Day.

I'm FREEZING!
I am so cold right now. Here it is - coming up on Memorial Day weekend and I am sitting in my house wearing jeans, a long sleeved shirt, and a hoodie sweatshirt. I've been chasing Youngestaround, putting my cold hands on her tummy.
Heh. Yeah, I'm the mean mommy.

Crap
It's pouring this morning. I knew I should have gone food shopping yesterday. ::sigh:: I am going to wait until after 12pm to head out. I have 93 boxes of GS cookies to drop off at Pathmark. I'd rather wait until it starts to snow instead of going out in the rain.
Off to the bus stop!

Bring.It.On.
Yeah - I'm that brave.
In other news, I am trying to purchase 2 youth sized Live String bracelets. Hah. I can't even FIND them around here and eBay is too damn expensive. $3.95 to ship a silicone bracelet? I don't freakin' think so.

WTF?
We're supposed to get anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow today. It started, in my area, around 9am. Very light fluffy snow. Tiny little flakes. There's maybe half an inch of snow on the ground right now.
So, the schools decided to close at noon.
Paranoid much?

Another nice day!
Two days in a row - I am SO loving this mini sprng break. It's supposed to go as high as 59 degrees. I've got my windows opened up and laundry running. Of course tomorrow and the rest of the week will be in the 30's and 40's. Oh well - I will take nice days whenever I can!
I'm going to be making meatballs and sauce to toss in my crockpot. Husband has school tonight so the girls and I are on our own for dinner. Hmm - maybe meatball subs? Yum.
Well - off to do some work. Ick.

Durn Snow
Husband shoveled out the bulk of the slushy snow last night. We knew it would snow again but he was concerned about about shoveling HUGE WET shovelfuls of snow. The stuff we got last night was very powdery. He was even able to use the broom to sweep off the cars.
Obviously, we will be sticking close to home. It's FOOTBALL day! Go Steelers! I am doing laundry (of course) and I think I might make a batch of homemade doughnuts for the kids. SO, catch ya'll later!

There have been a few people who have been discussing their local weather lately.
Here's MY weather forecast for today ::View image::
Here's my forcast for tomorrow ::View image::
I have things to do tomorrow morning for Girl Scouts. Luckily, I can get them done early and try to make it home by 1pm. I hope the weather behaves. Poor Husband just got called into work tonight. It is so damn cold right now. Ugh. I was out earlier this evening buying myself a pair of snowboots. They are totally cute.. and very red. This way, if I disappear in a frigging snowbank, they will find my body and be able to ID me.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

It's quite windy today so you know how much fun it is to drive in it.
I had to go to my local GS council and pick up a bunch of try-its and fun patches for the girl as well as some (additional) paperwork. The back of the girls' vests are full. They have loads of fun patches - three years worth. So, of course I bought more for them. Heck, they enjoy earning the try-its and the fun patches are, well, FUN!

Rainy and cold
We are having some very odd spring weather! But, I will take this rather than the humidity which is slowly creeping up on us in NJ. Yuck.
P and I have our 11th wedding anniversary tomorrow. Wow - 11 years. It seems like we have been married for so much longer than that. Wedded bliss and all that. Heh.
Tonight, we are taking the girls to a local community college to see the "Wizard of Oz". It's an 8pm show - eeek. I hope the girls like it! We have so many things to do tomorrow. Nothing to do with our anniversary either. M and I *must* be at church by 830am tomorrow for the childrens service and then we are staying after for the last official day of Sunday School. The kids are getting an ice cream party. At 945am. Not <i>my</i> idea of smart but hey... whatever. Then, at 630pm, one of my assistant leaders from the troop and Iwill be heading to an awards dinner for the local Girl Scout service unit. It's BYOB and you KNOW I am so grabbing a bottle of zinfindel to bring with us. I just want to be home by 9pm to watch the season finale of The Sopranos. I can't miss that!
Anyway, I must jump in the shower and get presentable. Have a great day!

Snow?
What the hell? Snow??
It's not too bad here - the roads are slushy. I managed to get some errands done today after I dropped the girls off at school. I picked up a 16oz coffee and a bagel and I was on my way. I got my oil changed at Jiffy-Doctor-Lube place. It literally took five minutes. <i>Five</i> minutes. Hey - works for me, thankyouverymuch.
I checked out a few thrift shops. Nothing but junk. Bleech. I stopped at another awesome looking antiques shop but they weren't open until 10am. I didn't feel like waiting around. Maybe next time. I had to fill out two referral forms for the girls. They will be seeing the allergist on Monday and their referrals ran out. God - filling out those forms are such a pain in the ass. It doesn't take long but just having to go to the pediatricin's office and <i>do</i> it - that's the pain!
Sooooo - what about them Sopranos, eh?? Great episode! I can't wait to see Steve Bescemi next week. He is such a freak!
Does anyone watch Curb Your Enthusiam? I watched it last night and thought I was going to wet myself from laughing. God - I <b>love</b> these story lines. The episode when Larry and Jeff attempted to get Larry's golf club out of a dead man's coffin? F'ing priceless. They literally pried a gold club out of the man's cold dead hands.
I guess you had to see that episode. Brilliant writing. Larry David is my new idol. If you don't watch it - you are really missing out on a great show.
Off to do a few things before picking up O. Ciao!

Too good to last
Well, I didn't think it would last.. but it doesn't hurt to hope. It looks like rain for the next two days. Mind you, it will still be in the mid-sixties but raining. Ick.
In other news, O started to wheeze and cough tonight. Damn. We fired up the nebulizer and gave her a breathing treatment with albuterol and pulmicort (steriod). Her nose was a mess - alternating between being runny and being stuffy. We gave her Nasonex as well as an OTC medication to dry up her nose. She is <i>flying</i> right now, full of energy and her cheeks are bright red. In fact, it looks like I drew two red rouge circles on her cheeks. Very weird. I am sure she will go to bed soon - say somewhere around midnight!

It is very sunny today. I just want to sit and bask in the sunlight. O and I were snuggling on the couch, watching "Sesame Street". I was all warm and comfy. So warm and comfy that I ended up snoozing on the couch! Some days, it is definitely worth being a stay at home mom. I think we will be going to the library today. Very rainy today.. but it's better than snow!
I got a phone call from M this morning around 945am. Apparently, only her and her friend were the only kids who wore pj's today. She was on the verge of crying. She wanted me to bring in clothes for her. Poor kid. P, O and I were going out anyway so I dropped off a change of clothes for her.
We also made it to Home Depot. We picked up the lumber, brackets and the few other items we needed for putting up the shelves. They are going to look very nice by the time he is done. Of course, I am hearing a lot of drilling and some mild cussing. Ahhhhh... the joys of an older home. Nothing is level. <i>Nothing</i>.

Snow Day
Well - schools were closed today. Given the panicky nature of our Bored of Edjukashon, I am sure the <strike>skools</strike> schools will be closed tomorrow AND Wednesday.
P is working on the computer in the living room and had the cable modem turned off all morning. I finally just turned it back on and am now typing from my bedroom.
The girls played nicely all morning until SOMETHING happened. It caused M to actually scream in anger. At O. Yes folks - she <i>screamed</i> until her voice gave away. What a charming young lady we are raising. O is in her room, being punished for touching M's stuff and not giving it back when told to do so. M got a proper scolding as well for losing her mind in 3.2 seconds. This should be a fuuuuuuuuuuuun day for all.
Save me.

Good morning
on this cold and icy morning. There are a few schools out here that are having delayed openings due to ice. Of course, not <i>our</i> school. That's ok. It's actually not too bad on my street and driveway.
P is home again today. He has to work tomorrow. Soem important things going on at work and he HAS to be there. I am not thrilled about that. He is still in pain and can't eat. He says everything tastes all gross, his sinuses are a mess and he is still having problems swallowing. To anyone who has had their tonsils removed as an adult, does this sound familiar? I am going to call the doctor today just to be sure.
I have to get M's butt in gear - we are having a <i>slow</i> morning.

OUCH!
I just went out to get the mail. I had stuffed my feet into P's work boots, pulled on a coat and walked outside. I was walking very carefully on account of all the slush and ice. As I near the end of my snow and slush covered gravel driveway, I slipped and fell. I threw out my left hand on the way down and landed on the lower part of my left leg, driving rocks into my knee and shin. Hard. Hard enough to make me instantly feel nauseous. Hard enough for me to see stars. I picked myself up as fast as I could. Didn't want the neighbors to see me all sprawled out by my mailbox. I pulled out my mail, turned around and hobbled my way back inside.
I need a hug. Ow.

Sometimes, I hate putting her on the bus. She will spend 25 minutes just riding the bus in the morning. I know she could use less pressure in getting ready.
Frankly, so could I.

Grey day
Kinda grey and blah outside this morning. Cold and damp. Good weather to snuggle between flannel sheets and go back to sleep. It's been hard getting up out of bed this past week. No school, no immediate morning obligations. The girls have been sleeping in too. Monday is going to suck big time. I love sleeping late. I <i>adore</i> sleeping late. I have been known to sleep until noon. Ahhhhhh. I miss those days. Of course, I would stay up past 1am or be out partying. But, the mornings that I had to be at work, I made it to work. God only knows how I made it but I did.

Storm Watch!
Wheee! 3-6 inches of snow are expected to show up here in NJ. The kids are thrilled. I'll be back - taking M to school..
Last year, <a href="http://sugar-plum.net/kate/archives/001596.html">this same date</a>, NJ also had some snow - again - 3-6 inches of snow. Pretty funny it was on the same day. LOL. A glimpse of last year:

Oh man - the girls and I just got back from the beach. The ocean was SO cool! And the wind - ai yi yi! I got some pictures but I have no idea how they turned out as of yet.
I have to take a shower - I have sand everywhere. Really.

It's WINDY!
I just picked up O at school. It was So windy at the school. O and Mary, her buddy, were having so much fun running around in the wind. It had to have been at least 25mph winds. They were laughing so hard they could barely walk and then the wind was blowing them off balance on top of it. Too funny!
I love this wind - I can't wait for M to get home. We are going to have a "Hurricane Party"!
Thanks for all the safe wishes. I appreciate it! To all in Isabel's path, please be careful. {{{safe vibes}}}

Batten down the hatches!
Storm's a brewin'! :::giggle:::
No big deal here in Ocean County. I live about 10-15 miles from the beach (Long Beach Island, Barnegat Lighthouse) and so far the sky is dark and there is a pretty decent wind.
Off to take the booger to school. I still can't believe that M has a half day today! :::eyeroll:::

Hurricane
People by me are flipping out about Hurricane Isabel. A woman at preschool this morning was asking people in the school about the evacuation plan. WTF?
You'd think we lived on the NC coast or something. We live in New Jersey! Unless you have waterfront property (and this woman did not), don't fricking have a cow! Our town is near the coast but I <i>highly</i> doubt that we will get anything worse than a lot of rain and high winds. Lordy - calm down folks!

Drizzling
Well -it's finally raining down here. It's been cloudy for several days now and extremely humid. Ew. The haze is unbelievable. I wish it would actually downpour instead of this drizzly crap.
I have spoken to almost everyone in my Bonkos group and they confirmed that they could make it next Monday. A few were unable to make it but I got substitute players for them, I just picked up the small trinkets (gotta love the Dollar Store) that everyone gets just for coming to the game.
Off to surf the web and do more housework!

The kids are driving me insane. I swear, if they weren't recovering from being sick, they would be outside, rain or no rain. P is passed out and I am feeling like total crap. [/whine]
Thak goodness I hadsome tomato sauce with meatballs and sausage in the freezer. It's now in the crockpot, simmering for dinner. I don't even know if I want to eat. Everything tastes funny. Blech.
I am gonna catch up on ya'll - see you around.

C-c-cold!
Man - it is COLD outside! The kids have been outside since 11am, took a break for lunch and then back outside. I will be dragging them back inside in half an hour. This way, they have time for a snack, get changed, clean up and leave by 430 before M's tae kwon do class at 5pm.
I have been doing the rest of the laundry as well as cleaning around the house. I really should get my ass to ShopRite for a few last minute things that I need for Sunday. Maybe tomorrow morning before my Dad and Stepmom come down. They are headed to AC for the weekend.

Also - I have a choice for Monday: Bonkos or my last crochet class. I have already missed March's Bonkos and really didn't want to miss this month as well. I think I can get help with my projects from a few friends both on and off line. Hmmm - I believe I just talked myself into Bonkos!

Rain
Ew..it's cold and rainy outside right now.
O was surprised to see my father in law AND P at school today. She gave each of them a BIG hug! :cheerful: We got back home and had lunch. P went to bed around 1230pm and I have to wake him up around 530pm so he can get ready for work tonight. He has to leave at 7pm. :sigh: I will be all alone tonight after the kidlets go to bed tonight. Hmm - I can blog all night, watch TV and talk on the phone! Wheeee!

Sunny Day
So nice outside! My house is 70 degrees and all my windows are open. Tons of fresh air :::ahhhhh:::
O and I worked in one of my gardens today. I dug up a lot of the beds, they were pretty gross. I pulled out a lot of old roots and dead mums. I am hoping to fill some of the beds with shasta daisies. I :heartbeat: shasta daisies.
Some of last year's daisies
<img alt="ogkdaisies.JPG" src="http://sugar-plum.net/kate/ogkdaisies.JPG" width="448" height="336" border="0" />
I have crochet class tonight. I need to do some food shopping too. After all, we are going to war - gotta stock up on bread and milk! :cheerful: Hmm - maybe I can sneak out of class early :mischievous:

Looks like it's over
The storm, that it.
Today is actually quite nice, if you like snow. LOTS of snow. M took off around 1130am to play with a buddy and I haven't seen her since. :cheerful: I am sure she will be cranky by the time she gets home. O went outside for a little while but ended up coughing and crying so we brought her back inside. Once she got her breathing treatment, she was fine. P had taken today off and he is sore from all that shoveling! I don't know if the kids have school tomorrow. It's a wait and see situation. I am sorta hoping for a day off!

SNOW PLOW!
While P was starting to work at the end of the driveway, this guy came by in a bucket loader and offered to plow us out for $20! P ran up to the door and I gave him $20. What would have taken P at least 3 hours, this guy did in 10 minutes!

Disaster Area
<a href="http://www.app.com/app2001/story/0,21133,690428,00.html"target=_blank>A powerful winter storm began to wallop New Jersey yesterday, prompting Gov. McGreevey to declare a state of emergency -- and at least one Ocean County town to declare itself a disaster area -- as more than a foot of wind-driven snow fell.</a>
That would be my town.. check out the story.

M is out playing in the snow. So is O - for about 15 minutes. I think she needs some fresh air and a little exercise. She is doing much better today. She was up quite a bit last night and we ended up giving her a bath at 5am to help lower her temperature. She has a big old power nap this morning.
Well - time to get the munchkin! I'll post more pics later!

It's awful down here - I thinkw e already have 6 inches of snow on the ground it there are no signs of it slowing down one bit.
I need some healing vibes from you guys - P took O to the ER about 40 minutes ago. Her fever is back, although not as high as yesterday. She is still coughing and wheezing. We can't have her wait until tomorrow. She needs antibiotics and steriods, for the wheezing. I bet anything she has double ear infections.
I'll update later.

C-c-cold!
Well - I shoveled out the driveway. :arg: There is a lot of snow! The girls were playing with my neighbor's boys and they were having a blast. They were sledding down a neighbor's (who is rarely home) driveway. Tracy (neighbor) and I made a little snow ramp for the kids. They loved it. O looked so funny sitting in a saucer, sliding down a driveway! She kept going back up and doing it again! I helped Ron (Tracy's husband) out with shoveling out another neighbor's driveway. 2 elderly women, sisters actually, one of which is undergoing chemotherapy  They are super sweet ladies and I am glad I was able to help them. Ron and Tracy got a head start on it before I got there.
We just finished lunch and <strike>I am going to put a movie in for them</strike> They are watching Spirit. I am exhausted. The bonus from shoveling is that I probably burned up 3 activity points!! although I am ready for a nap! Obviously, I couldn't make it to the gym - they were closed anyway.
Later!
UPDATE -
I measure the snow on my deck - 6 inches. Bleech!
