Shopping Surprise
I had to run over to WallyMart this morning. Imagine my complete surprise when I walked in and saw several racks of OP brand clothing.

Very cool indeed. I picked up some shirts and couple pairs of shorts for Eldest.
It's good to be her.

I GOT IT!!!
I can't believe I managed to get my hands on *the* hottest gift item this year. The girls will FREAK out. Heck, I"m still doing the happy dance myself! A huge shout out to my friend who not only snagged one for herself but managed to get another one and offered it to me. I've got it stored safely with the other gifts.... like the girls will even want to play with the other gifts.
We've got a busy weekend - birthday parties, the school holiday shop, basketball games, Girl Scout events... that's just all tonight and Saturday. I think on Sunday, we might decorate the house and set up the tree.
That sounds nice to me.

Lucky little buggers
The girls got to go back out on the boat this afternoon. Life sure is good for these kids. I picked them up at the marina just in time to chauffer Eldest to her horseback riding lesson. Now, we are at home. Youngestis exhausted and Eldest is slightly grumpy.
I can't WAIT for bedtime tonight!

You Give Me Fever
Once again Youngesthas been running some crazy high fevers. She's run between 99 - 102.5 and I'm not quite sure what's wrong. She says her throat hurts but if she's got a post-nasal drip that can cause the sore throat. Her fevers, if she is not medicated, will shoot up to 103-104 and we have to give her a cool bath to bring down the fever. She still occasionally is complaining about neck and head pain. So, I’ve got another appointment with the pediatrician this morning and I think I may push her to give me more than “it’s just a virus” speech. I think I want some other testing done, just in case…. Of what, I don’t even want to think about it. Luckily, we have good health coverage and I am going to take full advantage of that.
Husband’s campaign is going well. He’s the quiet runner but a lot of people are pleased with what he says – because it makes sense! Of course, I can’t get into all of it but our school district is trying to do something that we believe is wrong. I hope that people listen and actually VOTE sensibly. I did manage to clear up the BIG issue with his signs and I am hoping to pick them up today. They look awesome and people need to see them!
I was lucky enough to get a phone call from this lovely lady. We had an absolutely hysterical chat and once again discovered that we agree on so many levels of parenting issues. She invited me…and even the rest of my family… down to Texas. I hope we can get down there soon. I’d love to meet her and her charming husband Dash as well as their two lovely daughters. I just know that Wee One and Youngestwould hit it off and become thick as thieves!
Off to shower – have a great day.

Bad Mom? You decide
Eldest and I were waiting for the bus this morning. The roads were clear of snow but her bus stop had piles of snow so I drove us over.
As we are sitting in the car, we're chatting. Small stuff. I had a question pop into my mind and I asked her if she brushed her teeth before we left. Now, to give her some credit, she's usually pretty good about getting ready in the morning once she is out of bed. It takes her FOREVER sometimes but she can manage to pull it together just in time.
After I asked her about her teeth, she sort of looked shocked and then instantly dismayed. She didn't brush her teeth. Now she's got morning breath with the added combination of a raisin bagel and a glass of milk. I'm looking around my car, trying to figure out what I could give to her to at least eliminate the bad breath. Nothing. I left my purse at home and I usually carry mints or gum. Then, I spot something in my car that just might work.
A lemon Starburst.
I handed it to her and said "Here, eat this!" Eldest looked stunned that I was handing her a piece of candy at 735am and actually telling her to chew on it. Then, the bus pulled around the corner and she immediately shoved it in her mouth before dashing out of the car with a quick "Bye Mom!"
So, what would you have done?

Ever have one of those days?
The girls were acting up quite a bit on Saturday. It was constant bickering, horrible. Horrible. They were fighting about those stooopid Littlest Petshop critters. One had the other's monkey, the other one had a brush and comb set. They just kept harping on and on and on until Husband had a fine parenting moment when he finally snapped and bellowed "Bring me the monkey!" I just dissovled into a fit of giggles until tears filled my eyes.
Maybe you just had to be there.

Home with a sickie
Well, we've managed four weeks of school before the inevitable fever and sore throat fairy decided to pay us a visit. Looks like poor Youngestis the current victim. So, for now, she's loaded up with water and motrin. Thank goodness for motrin. I wonder if it's sold by the quart?

Dentist - Update
We're back. We made it home about an hour ago and poor Eldest was quite miserable. I think she's starting to bounce back since she's had a little soup and some water. Of course, tomorrow is the first day of school and she was very concerned about her missing teeth. I guess she thought she might get teased..??
Anyway - it's all good for now. She's getting to play on the computer and I am sure she might have a medicinal need for some ice cream later.

Eldest is having four teeth removed this morning, in about one hour, to be precise. She is way cranky and nervous..my poor baby. She's had teeth removed before but she gets anxious each time. Thank goodness the dentist is going to use the sweet air on her.
I'll update her condition later. Wish us luck!

I have to wonder if the girls are watching too much "What Not To Wear" when Eldest says to me, while we are all splashing around in the pool, "Mom, you'd better keep an eye on the girls."
She's not referring to herself or her sister either.

The scariest moment of my life
Yesterday, the most terrible awful thing happened.
Eldest and I had a great time at the baseball game. We're both slightly sunburned but it was a picture perfect day at the field. The Blueclaws lost but everyone had a wonderful time. When it was time to leave, we hauled back home and, luckily, Mom was able to pick up Youngestat her bus stop. I rush around, get things packed up and we all head over to the farm for Eldest's horseback riding lessons.
Her instructor is fantastic. Very capable, calm and is a very experienced rider. She's also an EMT. Eldest really likes her. The lesson is going very smoothly. She is riding very well and is trotting without the lead. The horse is very calm, almost lazy. Eldest really had to kick his sides to get him moving.
I heard a very loud noise - it sounded like an engine revving. Then, I hear my mother gasp very loudly. I look up just in time to see Eldest falling of her horse. I can still see it in my mind - in slow motion - the horse bolting and Eldest just falling back and to the right side of the horse. I run - like a maniac - to the door of the riding ring. The horse is galloping madly around the ring, just out of control. I see the instructor by Eldest's side, helping her up. Her boot came off and she seemed to have no other injuries. She was shaken up and crying. I think I aged 20 years in 10 seconds. My mother was very upset. I've got to give Eldest credit - after a few minutes, her instructor had her get back on the now calm and mellow horse. Eldest rode around while on the lead and finished up her lesson. They brought Rocky (the horse) back into the stable and Eldest helped remove his tack and saddle then brushed him. I'm ready to shoot the friggin' horse at this point.
Thank God she is completely fine. A little sore but she's fine. As for me, well, I'll be attempting to drink away that vison of my 70lb child falling off a 1200lb galloping horse.
Oy.

Misheard Lyrics
While driving home from the GS bowling party, I was listening to the radio and singing along. Eldest was trying to understand the lyrics and said "Mom, are they singing Rock the Catbox?"
I burst out laughing. It was too funny. I told Eldest "I am SO blogging this!"

I think the same thing!
Check out this article written by Leslea titled "I'm a Mommy? When did that happen?"
This says it best for me:
I may not have dreamed of becoming a Mommy. It may not have happened with trumpeting thunder and earth-shattering proclamations from the gods, but it certainly did happen, and it's made me better. It has made me more whole and steady and strong — and more real than I ever imagined I could be.
Amen sister!

Happy Birthday Olivia
Dearest Olivia,
Today is your sixth birthday. I can't believe that it's been six years since your birth. I know you are one tough little girl. I've seen you go through several medical issues in your six years and you've tackled them head-on, not letting them slow you down in any way whatsoever. You are doing great in gymnastics and you have so much fun in Girl Scouts. You started kindergarten this year and you are at the top of the class already with reading and math. Daddy and I are so very proud of you. We've watched you grow up to be such a beautiful little girl. You are wonderful and loving daughter and we love you so very much. I hope you have a very special day today.
Love always,
Mommy and Daddy

Not Like The Other
Anyone remember when Sesame Street did a segment called One of these things is not like the other The child had to choose what word didn't belong in a group of four words. I'll give you an example if you are not familiar with this game:
apple
banana
orange
car
Now, obviously, the word that does not belong is - car. See how easy this game is? Let's try it with a new set of words. I'll make it a little more difficult by using phrases instead of single words.
Christmas lights
Christmas cookies
Christmas presents
Nine year old daughter waking up at 230am and vomiting.
Can anyone guess which phrase doesn't belong with the others? Oh yeah, I bet you can!

Zoo
Yesterday, The girls and I visited a small zoo near us called the Popcorn Park Zoo. They are a part of the Associated Humane Society and they do a fantastic job with keeping the zoo very nice and clean. The animals are very happy. Just about all of these animals have been rescued from bad situations. Anyone remember the man from Ohio who was feeding his bears Krispy Kreme doughnuts? There's another bear, BooBoo, who was traded to a car dealer for a used car. I'm not making this stuff up people. Anyone remember the horrific attacks on the birds? (link, link, link). I had written about the attacks on my blog here, here, and even here. I still can't believe the responses from the people that came to these kids defense here. I finally had to close the thread because of threats towards me. I wonder if these kids are still in jail?
Anyway, we had a lovely time. See?
Princess the Camel, formerly a pet of Doris Duke.
Boo Boo, the bear who was traded in for a car
Trudy and Seven -Belgian draft horses rescued from starvation
Youngestdreaming over her ice pop
Two of these bears (Ginger and Maryann) were fed Krispy Kreme doughnuts
Sandy was purchased in Florida and brought to NJ , where it is illegal to own a mountain lion.
After dinner, the girls and I hit the pool. We swam and goofed around for an hour. It was a lot of fun! We also discussed sponsoring some of the animals at the zoo. The girls are very interested in helping and I am all for it. Now, it's just hard to figure out which ones they want to sponsor!
Well, I"m off - have to food shop and all that fun fun stuff!

Orthodontist
Well, Eldest finally goes back to the orthodontist today. I am curious as to what he will say our next step will be in straightening her teeth.
And now for something completely different.
I watched Six Feet Under last night. Man, what a bummer episode. How horrible is it of me to say that by the end of this episode, I really disliked Nate.
I've got no stream of creativity today so I am going to jump into the shower and get cleaned around here. Mom is coming for a visit today. The girls are excited to see her - it's been a while.
Have a good one!

Since I've been awake due to my neighbor's dog, I decided it was time to get the girls out of bed. I wandered over to the cd player in the living room, picked out a cd I made with all kinds of dance songs, turned it on and cranked it up. Eldest staggered out of bed about a minute after thar.

Camp - Day 2
I conked out at 1115pm last night during Family Guy. This show is my new addition. I just love Stewie - the sick little freak. I woke up sometime around 4am with the Cartoon Network still on the television. My glasses were askew on my face and I think I might have even drooled - just a little bit.
Nice visual, eh?
I think I glanced up at the television, fumbled for the remote, managed to turn it off before I rolled over and went back to sleep. Next thing I know, it's 645am, Husband is talking to me and trying to wake me. I am just psyched I got 7 hours of sleep - in a row!
Off to tend to the masses.

Not for the next two weeks.
I've actually got to get up and get out of bed. It's like I'm practicing for back to school in September. Youngestalso has swim lessons for the next two weeks as well. I will be busy busy busy. Sore
Did I mention that both of my shoulders are killing me? I guess from all the pulling on the trampoline springs must have really done a number on me. Seriously, I can't reach behind to scratch my own back or put on a bra. Owies. Luckily, I devised a way to put on a bra which was very much like the way I used to put it on when I was twelve.
I should be doing stuff around the house but I just don't feel like it. Maybe today can be "Lazy Day". Yeah, I think that works for me. Tomorrow we will be spending the day with one of my awesome sis in laws. Thursday, Mom will be down and Friday, the girls and I are going to the horse track with another one of my awesome sis in laws. Friday is Eldest's 9th birthday and Saturday will be her pool party for all her buddies.
I've got one fun-filled week planned!

It's going to be hard for her (and me) so I don't think I will hang around on the bleachers in the pool area. Home Sick
I've got Eldest home today. Her allergies are really out of whack. She keeps rubbing her eyes to the point of them being terribly bloodshot. Plus, she also has a nasty post nasal drip even though she is taking Flonase and Clarinex. We even had to give her a breathing treatment last night before bed. Poor kid.
We're going to run some errands and we might just stop at the playground too. Why not? It's gorgeous outside and will most likely hit the high 60's. The pollen count is high but I can't keep them locked in the house.
Have a great day ya'll!

Friday Blues
It's going to be one of those days.
Eldest is scheduled to have two teeth extracted this afternoon at 215pm. She is quite nervous about the entire procedure. The dentist will use nitrous on her before she gets the novacaine. It hurts to even think about it. I have to make sure I bring her favorite stuffed animal for her to cuddle with during the procedure. I have also promised her that she could have ice cream for dinner. She's thrilled about that idea! Of course, we shall see how she feels around 530pm today. I think I am just going to prop her up in my bed and let her lounge around. I remember when I had to have my teeth extracted (six of them!) and I know she's going feel like crap. I stopped at Pathmark this morning and bought yogurt, ice cream (Breyers - yum!), applesauce, and pudding. I decided to cover all the bases. Besides, she can always bring the stuff in her lunchbox too.
I've got a few things to get done today. I will try to post after Eldest's procedure. Please keep her in your thoughts today. I know I'm going to need a drink after this. Oy.

It's almost over...
the evening that is.
I'm ready for the girls to be in bed very soon! Eldest had an after school event (for her gifted and talented class). They painted blue crabs next to the storm drains. The crabs were placed there so people would be a little more aware about the dangers of littering and the effect it has on the environment. Very cool idea. We had a lot of fun painting the crabs. One of the police officers was there to help with traffic since some of the drains were on the side of the road. I spoke with him and he was really very nice. I got his business card so I can call him soon. He does a lot of work with the kids, coming in as the DARE officer and all the kids like him. I want to arrange a tour of the police station with our troop. Maybe I can get a picture of the girls in one of the cells. He said that the girls might not be able to tour the cell if there was a prisoner. We cracked a few jokes about that and I suggested that, for further punishment, we could leave the girls with the prisoner. He got a big kick out of that. LOL. Aren't the crabs cute? ::View image::
After we were done at the school, we headed to the library. I had a bunch of books on hold, including Kirstie Alley's new book.
You know, I started writing this post at 7:42pm. It's now 9:08pm. But, the girls are in bed. Finally. Husband managed to come home early from school so the girls were all excited to see him before they went to bed. I've got a few more things to do around here - laundry and dishes, the usual. I think I will put on my pj's soon!
Have a great night!

It's BEDTIME
Gotta love when it's the childrens' bedtime.
Actually, Eldest got into bed late tonight. She's usually in by 830pm. Her cheer dance class ran late tonight to make up for a class that was cancelled due to snow. While she was out, Husband and I had a nice stroll around the block while Youngestpedaled along on her bike. Then, she had some fun on the swings in the back yard AND had an ice cream sandwich (soy) for dessert. A warm bath, a little Spongebob - ahh - life is good!

I've been so busy cleaning their rooms that the rest of the place doesn't look that great. At least I got SOME laundry put away. I will have to take pictures of the girls rooms, just for posterity.

God Help Me
This morning was so stressful with Eldest. By the time we got into the car to go to school (because we SO missed the bus), I had a throbbing headache. I bet all you parents out there know just the type of headache I am describing. It hurt so much I was practically twitching. It's starting to subside only because my blood pressure is returning to normal.
In other news, I have all the try-its and badges sorted out for the troop. We will be holding a little ceremony this afternoon to hand out all of their awards. I hope it goes smoothly!
I'm going to wrap this up since I still feel crappy and I know I'm just going to be grumpy. Catch ya later.

I'm in the middle of attempting to organize Eldest's room. Man, it's scary in there. She has SO much stuff. I am cluuing out what I can but she will need to really go through everything. God - that could take a loooong time.

We're watching the third Harry Potter movie, all cuddled on the couch and eating popcorn. What a great day.. so far.
Heh.
::320pm update::
I just got dumped. The girls are off playing with the boy two doors down. Now, I'm all alone in the house. Gee.... what should I do? A glass of wine perhaps?

Shamed by a five year old
Youngestand I had to return a couple things back to WalMart this morning. I needed to pick up cat food, some cards, some socks for me and a few other things. Everything went smoothly. The return went smoothly. I found everything I needed. We checked out and walked out to the car. Youngestloves to sit in the basket part of the cart. As I lifted her out of the cart and placed her in her car seat, I immediately noticed the socks I had wanted to purchase. She ended up sitting on them and we never paid for them when we checked out. I was annoyed that she had sat on them. It was cold outside and all I wanted to do was load the car and leave. Youngestsaid "Mommy, we need to go back inside and pay for them." I said "I'll come back tomorrow and pay for them." Yeah yeah.. I knew. Horrible lesson to demonstrate to my most impressionable child. She said to me "Mommy, that would be stealing."
Damn. My five year old just smacked me down cold.
I told her she was absolutely correct and that it would be stealing. I loaded the car, grabbed the socks and we walked back inside to the courtsey counter. I told the girl what happened and we were able to pay for the socks right there.
I'm so proud of her for speaking up to me. Granted, when she's a teenager, I might want to tape her mouth shut, but I am really a proud mama. I am also slightly ashamed for not wanting to go inside to pay for them.
So, have any of you parents out there had an issue like this?

Crazy screwed up morning
This morning I woke up at 6:40am, glanced over at my clock and thought to myself, "Just two more minutes, that's all I need."
When I woke up again, I looked at my clock.
8:45am
Goddamn. I'm a freakin' idiot.
Eldest had to be at school by 8:10am. Today is a half day. Guess who stayed home today?
You betcha.
Of course, I will be printing out math and language arts work for her to complete so the day is not a total loss. We did make it to the public library for Youngest's story time and we will be taking a nice long walk around the neighborhood with one of my neighbors.
Oy - I am such a dork.

Still coughing
Youngestis still wheezing and coughing so I made the "executive decision" to cancel her gymnastics class. Luckily, I am able to reschedule the class. But, I had to also reschedule the make up class that was set for tomorrow for the class she missed LAST week. Oy. The gymnastics center was quite appreciative of me pulling her out of the class. They don't want sick children attending classes. Youngestwould have been coughing for an hour. That's not a huge problem for an asthmatic child - this typed out while Youngestis sitting with the nebulizer and mask over her face.
Poor kid. She just wants to tumble and jump around.

Wheee!
Youngesthas gymnastics in an hour. She *loves* gymnastics. She is so darn flexible! God bless five year olds. When she was doing somersaults last week, she would jump up and start laughing whenever she completed one. She looks adorable in her little leotard and skirt that is "poofy" when she spins around. I will have to try to get a picture of her during her routine.
Gotta run!

Proud Mom
Eldest got her report card today. Her teacher gave it to me a day early! It kicks ASS!! I am so happy I could burst. AP's in all her subjects - math, writing, literature, social studies and reading.
She worked very hard this year and I am so very glad to see that it's paid off for her.
Good job Eldest!

Ok - we are stil in pj's... damn.. I had wanted to be out of here by 10am. Oh well, no big.
Husband brought home the American girl dolls last night. We had them shipped to my Mom's house when I had ordered them a couple weeks ago.
I hope they like these dolls!

Making room
The girls have so much stuff. Seriously, there's a lot of toys, barbies, dolls, stuffed critters, cars, trucks, dress up clothes and shoes purses, tote bags... you get the idea... I can't just toss these things because they really do play with everything. It's so hard to have them sort through their toys because they want to keep everything.
But, Youngestand I sorted through her things today. We decided to bring a lot of toys that might be "for babies" over to my MIL's house. This way, there are even more toys for the girls to play with as well as for my niece and nephew. Let's say we are refreshing the toy selection at Grandma's house. I literally have a full garbage bag of toys, stuffed animals, books and workbooks to bring over on Saturday. Heh.
Man, I hope my inlaws don't mind.

More fun
Eldest has a 1230pm consultation with an orthodontist. She's got adult teeth coming in and not enough baby teeth missing. So, her adult teeth are all over the place. Not enough room. She's all freaked out about seeing him ::sigh:: I told her that he's just looking at her teeth - that's it. The way she's carrying on about it, one would think he's like the doctor from Marathon Man.
Now that's scary.

Smooth
At dinner the other night, the name of a boy in Eldest's class came up in a discussion. She said "I think he likes me." I asked her how she knew and she answered with "He's trying to get smooth with me."
::silence all around the table::
Me, slightly stunned: What did you say?
Eldest, very matter-of-factly: I said, he's trying to get smooth (emphasis hers) with me.
I just bet he was too. She's quite perceptive for an eight year old. He's a nice kid but now I feel like I must treat him like "The Enemy".
All boys are now considered "The Enemies". Now all I have to do is just figure out a way to tell her.

The Park
(I meant to write about this yesterday)
Eldest was staying after school for her gifted and talented program. So, Youngestand I went to one of the local parks yesterday. The weather was chilly but still quite sunny. We took a walk around the lake, checked out the view of a little waterfall then walked (ok - I walked while Youngestran like a bat out of hell) to the play area. It had one of those gi-normous climbing play units with a small rock climbing wall and multiple slides. Youngesthad so much fun tearing around and on this thing that you'd think I usually keep her locked away with no access to the outside world.
We played for a while, just me and Olivia. There were no other children there. It was so much fun. I can't even describe how much fun it was just playing with her, chasing her down the slide and just being overly silly. I wished I had a camera with me as I think I would have been able to take some really funny shots - like Youngest's hair standing straight up from sliding down the platic slide. We slid down the slide together. We slid slowly down the spiral.. down..down.. and when we got the the end, we just stopped. I lay back on the slide and pulled her so she was laying on me, also looking up at the sky. We just lay there for a few minutes, just talking and giggling and being silly. It was at that very moment I realized how very special this day had become. I knew I would remember this day always.
Suddenly the silence, and the moment, was broken by the noisy arrival of several other childen and their mothers. Welcome back reality.
Sometimes, I do forget to have fun with the girls. I hope I have more fun soon.

Kids
Last night, Youngestwas writing in her notebook (she calls it her "binder") using a ballpoint pen. I was on the computer and Eldest was in her room, drawing. At one point, Eldest came out to me and said "Youngesthas pen on her face and she's in the bathroom trying to get it off." "Lord help me" I muttered under my breath as I got out of the chair and walked up the hallway.
This is the face that looked up at me when I walked into the bathroom.
I didn't know whether to admonish her or bust out laughing. I was barely able to control my laughter when I asked her "Why did you draw on your face?" Using all her four year old innocence, she replied "I forgot my face wasn't the paper."
But of course.

Peace and Quiet
I have spent all day with the girls. Eldest, thank goodness, returns to school tomorrow after having 6 full days off from school. Our "fall" break. Yeah - some break!
I brought them to the local park. Holy crap, it was So windy and cold today! What the hell happened to the lovely 70-something degree weather we had yesterday? I guess it realized it was November and it hauled ass outta Jersey.
After the park, we stopped at ShopRite to pick up a few things. Thirty minutes later and $90 poorer, we left the store. Youngesthad started wheezing due to her 90 minute park melee. Cold air is a bitch for asthmatics. So, she got a breathing treatment once we got home. Since Husband had school tonight, I let the girls decide what to have for dinner. Of course, I get a chorus of "McDonalds! McDonalds!" right away. Once they realized that Micky D's wasn't in the cards, they chose spaghetti and garlic bread with salad. Oh, and bacon bits too.
What makes children so addicted to bacon bits? They must be laced with crack or some other addictive substance besides salt. My girls would, literally, eat all the bacon bits in the jar. Eww.
I just got the girls into bed. Husband will be home soon. Right now, the house is quiet and all I hear is the coffeepot brewing and my fingers on the keyboard, clicking away. I enjoy my quiet time. My coffee and I - we surf the blogs, catch up on emails..
I love when the girls go to bed.

O
Today was O's first day of soccer. She **loved** it. I snapped a few pictures of her running around. Her shirt is miles too big but she looks so damn cute in it anyway. I will have to try to shrink it in the wash.
She starts school (preschool) tomorrow. It's her last year as a preschooler ::sniffle:: I will take some pics tomorrow and post a few up when I get the chance.
I am heading to bed very soon - I am exhausted and still feeling like ass.
Yuck.

Home then out again
We found cleats for O - and they were on sale! YAY! The shin guards, unfortunately, were not on sale and cost as much as the damn cleats ($14.99). I did get O decent shin guards because she is *so* tiny. I don't want her with some busted up legs and ankles in the first 30 minutes of her soccer season. She is 4 1/2 years old and only weighs about 35 pounds. The teams in her league will consist of 4 1/2 to 6 year olds. I hope she doesn't get crushed. I know she will be the smallest kid on the team. Did I mention that the teams are also coed? She looked so cute with the cleats on her feet and the shin guards in place. She is *so* excited to start soccer.
I think I feel more gray hairs popping out. Oy.

Cleats
The girls and I have to go shopping - for cleats. There are NO cleats in the local stores in my area. I have to drive to the mall and look there or in the existing strip center stores. O will be starting soccer next week and needs cleats. Did I mention that one of her soccer days is on Friday - the same day as our troop meetings? Ugh. It's going to be a hectic fall season.

Luckily, most of her shirts fit although I did have to toss a few aside. I am selling her stuff at the yard sale this Saturday.
Now, I have to tackle O's closet ::shudder::

Rockets
Tonight the four of us and my neighbor, his two boys and one other neighborhood boy went over to the local elementary school and shot off rockets. M is friends with my neighbor's youngest son and for his birthday, she (we) gave him a model rocket. We told my neighbor that we would show him how to set it up and shoot it.
The kids had SO much fun. It was a perfect night for shooting rockets. Barely any wind at all. The mosquitos were out in full force despite the bug spray but a LOT of fun was had by all. My neighbor's sons wanted to go to the store tonight and buy more engines. LOL.
When we got back home, the girls jumped into the pool and got their "pool bath". I was so freakin' itchy that I took a shower once the girls were out of the pool. I didn't feel like going swimming - the water was too chilly for me!
Off to get my pj's on and relax. I think I will finish up the poncho. I only have a few more rows until it is complete. Yay me!

Punishment
M is doing her punishment assignment - 25 lines of "I will not yell at my parents".
Boy - is she hating life right now.
Frankly, I am at a loss as how to rectify this problem. She just freaks out and literally yells at me and P. And the things she says to O, ugh. Sometimes they play so nicely then O will do "something" and M spazs out, screams "I HATE YOU" and basically transforms from cute child to PsychoSuzy. We have taken away tv time, desserts, playdates and it still continues. I think the lines assignment might work. ::sigh::
Off to clean and do laundry. Fun.

Thursday Playdate
M has a friend over - she got here around 930am. Her mom dropped her off before she went to work. E brought a bunch of her Bratz dolls. M (and O) dragged out all of their Bratz too. Oy - I have Bratz parts - like feet/shoes/hats/clothing - all over my living room floor. It looks like a Bratz processing factory threw up in here.
Yeah - there's that many.
I am going out with them in a little while to deliver M's birthday party invitations. I already found out that 2 kids can't make it. Oh well, makes party day easier for me!

DONE!!!
O's room is finished!!
::happy dancing::
Actually, I do have to make her bed but all her blankets (blankies) are in the washer. Other than that, it's all clean! I think I am going to light a stinky candle in there. It smells. Even cleaned up, it smells like dust..or maybe feet.
Heh.
I am hoping to get to M's room this weekend. Tomorrow we are going to my Mom's house around 230pm. She is having her old college roommate and her husband over for a visit and they haven't seen the girls at all. Aunt Judy is so excited to meet the girls. Uncle Jim, well, he's pretty low key. They are both pastors so I had better watch my ****ing language.
Well, off to fold some (more) laundry.

Worn thin
O has this annoying habit of asking me for something over and over and over again. Does this sound familiar?
O - I want a lollipop [note the "I want"]
Kate - No. It's 9 o'clock in the morning.
O - makes mad face and walks away.
...5 minutes later...
O - I wish I could have a lollipop.
K - I told you - NO.
O - walks away
2 minutes later
O - I really really wish I could have a lollipop
K - (yelling) I SAID NO
O - (now crying) But I WANT ONE
This goes on all damn day. Ice pop, juice box, gum, candy... pick any one of them and insert it where it says lollipop. It's not like she never gets any treats at all. Sure, I could give her the damn lollipop. It's just a crappy little DumDum. BUT, by now, it's a matter of principle. I CAN'T give it to her and be effective.
Here's another example.. we are in the backyard. She is on the swings and I have a full laundry basket that I need to hang on the line. I have already told her I would push her on the swings when the laundry was hung.
O - I really wish you would push me now.
K - I said I would push you on the swings when I was finished hanging the laundry in this basket.
1 minute later
O - Mom?
K - Yes?
O - Can you push me?
K - ::deep sigh:: O. I said I would push you when I was finished hanging laundry. See this basket?
O - yes
K - When it is empty, I will push you on the swings
O - ok Mommy
30 seconds later
O - Can you push me?
K (freaking out and losing my cool) NO! I will NOT push you on the swings!!!
O (crying) Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
K - (walking away angrily to the porch)
O - (still crying, runs up to the porch, picks up a ball and throws it at the porch. It hits the porch steps near my potted plants and bounces back towards her)
K - (in my best Mommy warning voice) Don't throw that at my plants
O - (picks up the ball again and defiantly chucks it at my plants.
K - (runs down the porch steps swats O on her butt, does a fireman's carry with her into the house and put her in her room.)
O - WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
[the kicker - I only had about 2 things left in the laundry basket. She was SO close to having fun on the swings]
I need a drink.

Nag nag nag
O was <strike>nagging</strike> asking me to make her a banana milkshake. So, I whip one up - soy milk, banana, dash of vanilla, a couple ice cubes... Now, in true four year-old fashion, she only drank half a cup and didn't want anymore. She does this every time. :::mumbling::: Why? Why do I bother?
Cuz I am a sucker... that's why. Back yard fun
The girls, me and 4 cans of silly string. Heh. Talk about a way to work out anger and aggression towards your kids. How many times are they going to fall for the "I won't squirt you" trick?

Pajama Day
We are slumming around the house today. It's cold and rainy out... just plain yucky..
I have a GS event for this evening. We are taking a tour of one of our local banks. Hey, it kills 30 minutes. M was invited to sleep over a friend's house tonight. Yippie! One kid down for the night. O will get treated to McD's tonight and a dvd. Man, life is tough... lol

Damn
P woke up late this morning. As he raced out the door, I hear a scream followed by hysterical crying. Damn - it was O. She hates when P leaves for work. She gets absolutely unconsolable. But, it's only if she *hears* him leaving. Not when she's still sleeping but when she wakes up and realizes he is leaving. Then, the party starts. This particular morning, she screams and runs out of her room crying. P ended up coming back inside and giving her some cuddles and a big hug before he left. She also woke up M, who staggered out, wondering what had just happened.
Of course, it didn't help that I did not get a lot of sleep last night. It might have been the big cup of coffee I was stooopid enough to drink at 1130pm. I also had wicked heartburn and, to add insult to injury, my back and arm were seriously bothering me. I finally got up around 430am to chew up about 5 antacids. I have to say they did do the trick.
So, upon being rudely awakened at 730am, I discovered that I had the most disgusting morning breath. Ever. What is that all about? I brush my teeth. I keep clean. Why did it taste like I had a load of crap in my mouth? I brushed and brushed my teeth and thankfully, that awful taste is gone. Man - that was nasty!
The girls and I are going to go out today... I think it's a Tarrrr-zhay kind of day. Oh yeah.. uh huh! The girls love Target. So do I. I think I am going to pick up a copy of the South Beach Diet and give it a shot. Oh - I forgot - I have pictures to upload from Easter and a few other events. I also want to put up a shot of the girls' My Little Pony dolls. It's pretty impressive. I must admit, I like to brush the ponies manes. I said it.. yes.. I like to brush the manes and tails of the girls' My Little Pony dolls.
I need help. Please.. HELP ME!

Why?
O has been lucky enough to catch some kind of mutant cold that only develops between the hours of midnight and 3am. She has been up and down all night/morning. I am going to try to get an appointment for her if she doesn't seem to feel better in the next few hours. Luckily, she doesn't have school today or tomorrow.
Off to take M to school.. catch ya later!

Huh?
I think I have had about 3 hours of sleep. O woke up around midnight, coughing big time. P brought her into the bathroom for some steam and then we gave her a breathing treatment. I tucked her back into bed then P and I went to bed. She came into my room around 2am-ish, crying and wanting to come into our bed. I just let her climb in so we could both try to get some sleep. Well, I think P and O got some sleep - I got kicked and coughed on for most of the night. At 6am, P's alarm went off and we all ended up getting up at that time. M got up at 630.
I can't wait to get M off to school so I can go BACK to bed. I will drag O in with me. Obviously, she won't be going to school today.
::::yawning:::: I'm so tired....
Oh - and all you spammers...
Go **** yourselves.

Down and Out
Remember I posted about <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/004843.php#004843">O getting a cold</a>? Well, it's still hanging around today. She had another breathing treatment this morning. She was also complaining about her right ear hurting. I decided to give her a dose of motrin for the pain. She is usually a trooper for sticking it out so when she actually <i>does</i> complain, we give her the motrin.
It did stop raining but it's all soggy outside. She is lounging in M's beanbag chair and watching a Wiggles dvd - Space Dancing. This way, I can get some laundry finished up and she will lay down and relax for 10 or 15 minutes. Heh.

Incredible
What a wonderful day.
We got a lot of work done in the back yard. We took the girls to the park, met up with some of their friends and let them run for two hours. We didn't get home until after 5pm. By the time dinner was all prepared, we sat down to eat at 615pm. The girls got baths right after dinner - now they are all squeaky clean and ready for church in the morning. I am sure they will conk right out.
Nothing beats a day of playing. Nothing.

Getting better?
O is playing in the living room. M is in her room, punished for being mouthy. P is working late - problems with the systems there. I am going to make tacos. Maybe we will all feel better after a taco dinner.
It's worth a shot.

So sad
O and I were cuddling on my bed after a crazy tickle fight. She was laying on me, all snuggled up, when she started to cry. When I asked her what was wrong, she said "Mommy, I don't want to be dead" and then burst into tears.
My heart is breaking... she's only four years old. She sure as hell shouldn't be thinking about <i>death</i>.

Pissed off
This morning, while at the bus stop, I noticed a condom on the ground. An out of the package condom. I am so disgusted and pissed. I moved it with a stick after the kids got on the bus. What kind of asshole leaves a <i>condom</i> laying around for children to find?

Medical Miracle
Thank God for Motrin.
O's fever is down and she actually ate some toast. Yay. My throat is slightly scratchy. Grrr. I have Bonkos tonight and I AM going. Sick or not. I need to get out of the house! I am feeling unproductive. Maybe I can just fold some laundry and make my bed before 5pm. Heh. Dinner tonight is leftovers.
P is hanging another shelf in my laundry room. I can't wait to put more stuff up and get them off the floor. <a href="http://www.bookblog.net">Mary</a> and her sister came down for a visit yesterday. We had a lot of fun. Her sister is very nice. She spent most of her visit playing with the girls - Polly Pockets, Pixter, Care Bears, My Little Pony. I told Joanne that I wanted her to move in with us!
Well - off to try to get motivated and do something.

I am sorting the girls clothes. Oh my gosh - they have SO much! I am stunned. The bonus - O will be able to wear M's clothes as soon as she grows into them. I have to get some containers out of the attic and repackage the clothing.
Man - I can't wait for spring. We are gonna have one big damn yard sale!

Fun day
I brought O to the park this afternoon. We were there for almost two hours. Some of her buddies from preschool were there too. They had so much fun. I got to hang out with the other moms and chat between pushing the kids on the swings, tire swings, catching them when jump from those jungle gym structures.. Lots of fun was had by all and O finally got to run and play in the sun! It was nice to be in the sun even though it was cold. Not frigid cold but just a regular cold. The sun made a huge difference today. I am just babbling... gonna go cuddle with O for a little while.

M's story
M got nominated my her teacher to attend the Young Authors Conference next month. She needed to write a short story. She did. I helped her with punctuation and some spelling words but the story is all hers.
I posted it in the extended entry
<center><u>Rachel's Birthday</u></center>
Once there was a girl named Rachel. She lived on a big farm in a small town called Pine Hollow. There were many animals that lived on the farm like cows, chickens, sheep and horses. One of those horses belonged to Rachel. She named her horse Star.
Today she is very happy. Today is her birthday. She is turning ten today. Rachel went for a birthday ride on Star. When she got home, her two friends Lesa and Lou were at her house untacking their ponies, Prancer and Prince.
Soon all her friends were at the party with their ponies. All of the ponies got to run around and play together in the paddock while everyone was having a grand time at the party. One of the games they played was Pin the Tail on the Pony. Not a real one of course.
After the games were done, Rachel?s mother brought out the cake. Rachel saw that it looked like her horse. Everyone loved the cake and thought it looked really cool and tasted great. Rachel opened her gifts. The last gift was a sheepdog puppy from her Mom and Dad. Rachel named the puppy Moppsy. Everyone had a wonderful time. Rachel said it was the best birthday ever!

Thank goodness
No midnight puking from M. She slept in bed with me and crashed pretty hard. Poor kid. Of course, this morning she is like Tigger - all bouncy and full of fun. I am keeping her home anyway - just in case. O kept waking up in the wee hours of the morning from bad dreams. She said that she would feel better if she slept in bed with me. Heh - not last night. Poor kid. So, I let her read in bed for a while until she fell asleep again. I played the bad dream game about three more times from 3am-6am. I am going to keep her home from school as well. Ugh.
I think <i>I</i> need to go back to bed.

Parting is such sweet sorrow
We are in the process of weeding out some old toys, books, etc from the girls. Oy - this is difficult. We have SO many books that we just need to donate. O gave up a lot of her "noisy" dolls - singing Barney, a talking Kermit, Ernie and a couple dolls that say prayers. She does not like dolls that make noise. Well, except the Wiggles dolls. She loves them. Go figure.
M is rooting through her stuff, tossing out old papers and completed workbooks. She even gave some of her old toys to O - Mrs. Potato Head was a big hit. LOL
Back to work!

Funny
I forgot to mention this when writing about our NYC trip.
When we were walking through the street festival, there was a vendor there selling specialty yarn - all made from their home/farm. They owned the sheep, dyed the yarn, etc. As I was walking past the display, I said "Oooh! Yarn!" and slowed down to take a look. M said "MOM! You have ENOUGH yarn at HOME! NO MORE YARN!" and dragged me away. LOL! What a smart-ass!

I just dropped M of at a manicure party. The birthday girl invited four of her friends to meet at the local hair/nail salon. Sheesh - I never had a manicure party. Ice Cream
Right now the girls are eating ice cream. <i>Both</i> girls. For anyone who isn't aware, O is allergic (anaphylactic reactions) to all dairy products as well as all nuts/peanuts and eggs. She is also allergic to fish. Luckily, we know of an ice cream she can eat - made by <a href="http://www.tofutti.com/home.asp">Tofutti</a>. Suprisingly, it tastes pretty good. I had to call the company on Monday. I had some questions about the ice cream. I spoke to a super nice CS person and she answered all my questions. I did buy regular ice cream for M. She was so excited. Poor kid - you'd think I never let her eat anything. LOL

Things are better
I didn't <a href="http://sugar-plum.net/kate/archives/003725.html#003725"target=_blank>lock them in a closet</a>. ::grin:: Instead, I took the girls outside and they rode their bikes for over an hour. They rode up and down the street and then wanted to go around the block. I walked with O as she is not that great at steering her trike. Let me tell ya - it's HOT outside. The girls get all flushed and sweaty when they get hot. Talk about some seriously pink cheeks! I had brought drinks for them and myself so we were ok.
Right now, they are playing in a small tent that I set up in the living room. They are <i>starving</i> so they will be having hot dogs and tater tots. Yummy!
