Isn't he wonderful?
Husband is outside, in the crappy weather, giving the car a double check to make sure it's in tiptop shape to drive up to the Blogmeet. See why I adore him?

The man
I just got off the phone with Husband. He's doing ok - for now. He's not looking forward to tomorrow's procedure and I sure as hell can't blame him.
The fish and the cat have been fed. The girls are in bed. My house is quiet except for the sound of the washing machine swinging into the spin cycle. I need to empty the dishwasher and reload it, switch the wash into the dryer and put in another load.
[..]
Spoke too soon. Youngeststarted crying because she misses Daddy. She's all worried about him not sleeping here tonight. We cuddled and I explained a few things to her and she calmed down. I hope she goes to sleep soon. She is exhausted.
I'm off to finish up some work around here then I am going to get a glass of wine, kick back, and read some blogs. See you soon!

He's a keeper
Husband just cleared the table, put all the food away, loaded and started the dishwasher. He does stuff like this for me all the time.
Isn't he awesome? I just love him to pieces!

Family Handyman
Thank goodness for P. He fixed M's glasses, saving us about $100 for new frames.
Thanks babe! Me love you long time!

Poor P
He got stuck working late tonight. He called me at 4pm to let me know he'd be late. He *just* called about 15 minutes ago to say he is finally on his way home.
I don't think he's had dinner either. I am sure he is starving. I have a steak all set and ready to cook, if he wants it.
Gotta go - I want to watch Laura Bush and finish this darn poncho!

Poor P
P did a marathon session of lawn mowing on Wednesday evening. He aggrevated his back and pulled some muscles. Spending the day at Six Flags wasn't that great either. By the time he got home from work today, he was practically limping. I made sure he had some dinner and then he tossed back a percosett. He crashed out on the bed. Poor guy.
I have a few things to do tonight, including cleaning the bathroom, kitchen and living room. I also need to make a cake, icing and some cupcakes for tomorrow. I had better get to work!

Funny
For those of you who don't know, O is my four year old daughter. She is the inspiration for the blog skin with one duck saying "Having kids is like being pecked to death by a duck". Anyone who has gone through the toddler age with their own child will understand what this means.
O is a very busy child. She likes to have things to do and that is fine with me. I have no problems setting her up to do crafts or coloring or dot to dots or <i>whatever</i>. But, she is like a human form of Chinese water torture. <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/005140.php"target=_blank>She just asks me the same thing - over and over and over again</a>.
On Sunday night, O was being her typical four year old self and driving us crazy. It was a constant evening of "No" and "put that back" and "stop hitting/touching/looking/breathing at your sister". Finally, P had had enough and snapped at her "You are being such a pain in the nuts!"
I was sitting on the couch, crocheting a pair of flip flops. When I heard what P said, I whipped my head up and looked straight at P. He had a shocked look on his face, as if he couldn't believe he actually said what he did out loud. I burst out laughing. I couldn't help it - it was just so damn funny. Luckily, M wasn't in the room (not that she knows what "nuts" are) and O didn't even understand what he said.
I was still laughing 15 minutes later and I am even laughing as I type this entry. Welcome to the monkey house!

Sleepy Hubby
Poor P. He was practically falling asleep at the kitchen table. I just sent him into the bedroom so he can lay down for a little while. M is working on her homework and O is riding some little tractor around the kitchen.
In crochet news, I have been able to sit and work on my ongoing baby blanket. I really am starting to despise the color <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/pound.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/pound.php','popup','width=130,height=100,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">mint</a>. Ugh. I have to get over the "normal" baby colors and think outside the box. LOL. Hell - I might be bringing it with me at NYC Bloggerfest 2004. I will need something to do on the bus ride into NYC.

More OT
P is on his way home. He has been working overtime for the past couple days. I know he is probably tired and hungry. I have wings in the oven for him and I can whip up some mashed potatoes and gravy if he wants some.
Gotta run - M is in the shower and i have to make sure she is <i>actually</i> washing herself.

Bed time
I am trying to make P go to bed. He has to leave the house around 4am to pick up his dad for the <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/004858.php#004858">surgery</a>.
Good - he's going in now.

A few more days...
then P goes back to work. He has been home - not at work - for 17 days. That doesn't include the weekends. I know he has a lot of work to do when he goes back on Monday. He says he will have to work a lot of OT to make up for the time at home. At one time, he said he would love to have a month off from work.
I don't think he meant like this.

Doing better
My FIL and I just got back from visiting P. He is much more lucid, still in some pain but not nearly what it was it was a few hours ago. He lost almost a pint of blood last night. He is hoping to be discharged today. He hasn't seen the doctor yet.
I am running on overdrive. The girls are at school. My friend has kindly offered to watch O for a couple hours. Luckily, my friend's daughter is O's bestest buddy. This way, I can also go food shopping and pick up a few things specifically for P. I also need to get him some Ensure. He cannot lose any more weight.
Thank you all so much for the kind emails. I cannot express how much they mean to me. {{{hugs}}}

Surgery
The ER just called. He's going in for surgery. I called my FIL and I am out of here as soon as he gets here.
Good thoughts would be mucho appreciated.

ER visit - UPDATE
I just got a call from a nurse at the ER. P is still bleeding. There will be an ENT coming in to see him shortly. The nurse said that P was hooked up to an IV because he is still bleeding. The nurse wasn't sure what might happen next - stitches or cauterizing the wound are several options, She did say that the ENT will make the decision. I want to go see him but I have no sitter. I don't want to call my inlaws and wake them up now. ::sigh:: The nurse did say that she would call me back and keep me updated.
I want to freakin' scream.

ER visit
P is on his way to the ER. He coughed and busted something loose in the back of his throat. I think it was the scab from the surgery. Blood all over. Oooogy. I am very nervous for him - I don't know what the ER can do for him and how they can stop the bleeding.
He just called me 5 minutes ago - he walked into the ER and there was NO ONE in the triage room. No one behind the desk. WTF is that?

Furious
P went outside for a cigarette last night. He had "quit" smoking last Wednesday - the day of his surgery. He managed to sneak out and purchase a pack sometime Monday while the girls and I were out at my mother's house.
After the President was finished speaking, I was surking around on the computer when I see P. wearing his coat and hat. He was standing in the kitchen. I asked him where he was going - thinking he was taking out the garbage or something. "Out for a cigarette" he answered right before opening the sliding glass door and walking outside.
Needless to say, I was beside myself with anger. I walked out of the room, fuming. At that moment, I didn't even want to be in the same room with him. I decided to take a shower then watch tv in the bedroom. He ended up coming into the bedroom about 40 minutes later. I didn't even look at him. He apologized but I ended up scolding him. ::sigh:: He has a <i>wound</i> in the back of his throat. If food and drink hurt his throat, WTF is smoke going to do to it? Heal it? I think not.
I smoked for eleven years. When I got pregnant, I quit. Cold turkey. I knew I didn't want to hurt M. I HAD to quit. Am I now a pain in the ass non-smoker? You freakin' bet. I don't throw pamphlets in your face but I sure as hell will nag someone that I love and hope they can quit. A long time ago, P decided not to smoke in the house or the cars. His decision. Having the girls around made that choice very easy for him. I agreed with his choice.
I really wish he didn't pick up smoking again. ::sigh::

Late Christmas Gift!
I knew part of my Christmas gift was being shipped late courtsey of Amazon. I have made it a point of NOT checking my Amazon account because I didn't want to know what Husband had bought for me. UPS just arrived bringing me a set of these!! YAY!!!
Posted by Cate at 04:09 PM | Comments (2)
Oh yeah - him too
P is doing better today. He didn't get much sleep last night. He has eaten quite a few bowls of ice cream and he managed to eat some scrambled eggs this morning. I made him some mashed potatoes with gravy for lunch. He was able to eat that too. He is jonesing for a cigarette. I told him before the surgery if he needed smokes, I would not be purchasing them from the Wawa. I told him to stock up himself. So far, this is day two with no smokes.
He has been working on building a small r/c hovercraft. No kit - just plans from the internet and some parts that he has laying around the house. He's like <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/mac2.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/mac2.php','popup','width=393,height=492,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">MacGyver</a>.

Damn
P had to work late today. Then, he got stuck in traffic. He didn't get home until 645pm. He's usually home by 5pm. He eats his dinner and chats with the girls. The phone rings at 710pm. It's work. He has to go back in right away. I hate when he's on call. But, I think he would have been called in anyway.
The bonus - overtime
The downside - I get stuck give the girls a bath and getting the nighttime routine done. Alone.
Man - I need a drink. LOL

It begins
P is on his way home. He will be starting to work the 8pm-8am shift now that the war has started.
My father in law is coming down today, around 11-ish. He is going to come with me to pick up O from school. She will be surprised! IHe's going to stay for lunch, which will be nice. I am sure all we will talk about will be the war.

Just got off the phone with the husband. He works for a reservoir, doing all kinds of computer work. He was just informed by his boss that if/when the US went to war, he would be working 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week.
