My poor kitty...
Husband and I will be bringing my 19 yr old kitty to the vet today... it doesn't look so good for her. She's peeing all over my kitchen and bathrooms. She never used to do that. Plus, she's drinking TONS of water as well. I think she's got diabetes AND she has such a hard time jumping down or even walking. She loses her balance occasionally too. ::sigh::
Youngest just dissolved into tears when I told her that Darla (kitty) was going to the vet... and that it may be her last visit. She cried.. I cried... oy.. this is a miserable day.

Back to Work
I'm working half a day today - from 1215pm until 4pm. Today's job is at a school where Youngest has her Girl Scout troop meetings. At 415pm, I need to run Youngest's meeting. So, in 15 minutes, I need to rush back home, pick up Youngest and go BACK to the school for the meeting! Wheeee!
I'm trying to work as much as possible... hey, who DOESN'T need money today? Gotta big trip coming up and we need to pay for that. Look what I found online - thank goodness for the Internet!

Girl Scouts
This is Eldest's Junior vest.
She worked quite hard to earn all the badges on the front of the vest. Since I am the troop leader..ahhem.. I mean.. mentor.. I felt it very important that she bust her butt twice as hardas the other girls. She did earn a few badges on her own but, for the most part, all of those badges represent three years worth of meetings.
As you can see, our troop has been quite busy.
This is the back of her Junior vest.
All those patches are called "fun patches". Whenever we'd go on a trip, do a fun activity, sell nuts and cookies, or even some community service work, I would pick up a fun patch. I stopped buying fun patches last year as the girls vests started filling up and the patches were costing us quite a bit of money.
The girls bridged to Cadette level in May so we get to start all over again with a new vest. It looks so empty - with nothing on it but an insignia tab and a couple earned IPAs
I know a lot of people have problems with Girl Scouts. I do believe that it is a great organization and, unfortunately, there are people who experience bad situations. At the most basic level, it is completely volunteer-run. I know myself, while running two troops, that it is difficult to balance everything and provide a decent program for the girls. I think that's what a lot of people forget - it's for the girls. Not the moms.. not the dads.. not the leaders. The girls. I've had a few uncomfortable moments as a leader when dealing with parents and even other leaders. That just sucks.
Luckily, for the most part, I do enjoy running Eldest's troop - the girls are all 7th grade and want to be part of it. Some girls I've had since Kindergarten!! It's incredible to see how much they've grown.. especially since most of them are taller than me! I've had soem difficult moments but the parents are great and very supportive.
I can't ask for more than that.

ZwinkyCuties
Last week, the girls and I were invited to a launch party for ZwinkyCuties.com. Thank you Michael! The girls were quite excited to take a trip into New York City, especially on a school day. I made all the arrangements the day before, got everything all set and by Tuesday afternoon, we were riding the local commuter bus into the Big Apple.
(more below the fold)
Our bus ride in was uneventful - thank goodness! Once we arrived at the Port Authority, we only had to walk a couple blocks. The event was being held at Times Square Studios, which just happens to be right across the street from the ginormous Times Square Toys R Us. Since we had some time to kill before the offical party started, the girls begged to walk over to Toys R Us and browse. How could I refuse?
As soon as we entered the store, a photographer snapped our picture. The photo was cute but it's $24.95 for two 5x7's and eight wallets. Meh - maybe not the best price. I can still purchase the photograph if I want.. and I'm still deciding. We visited the Spongebob display - which is Youngest's most favorite cartoon character. Can you tell?
Of course, they also ran up into the Barbie house and posed quite nicely for me.
We leave and walk back to the launch party. This is what we see on the Times Square Jumbotron:
How cool indeed.
The food was amazing. Check out these fantabulous cookies:
I wish I had taken more pictures of the goodies. They were gorgeous!
The girls even got photographed by press members who were also covering the event:
I had the great opportunity to meet the famous and most lovely Lynette and her adorable children. Youngest and her daughter hit it off and paired up instantly.
Lynette and I spent our time chatting and taking many photographs. Heck, we even saw Barry Diller (Chairman and CEO of IAC) who spoke briefly at the event. Looks like the ZwinkyCuties.com website got his thumbs up in approval!
Then, the highlight of the day - Jordin Pruitt
She sang three of her new songs and all the girls there went a little crazy although I don't know what Eldest was thinking at the very moment I snapped this photo:
While she was performing, there were cameramen all over the place, crawling along the floor and stage. At one point, one of the cameramen panned over to the audience, which was broadcast live out on the giant jumbotron outside. Very very cool. When she was finished singing, the girls were able to get their VIP passes autographed and pose with Jordin for a picture.
We even got fabulous goodie bags which contained a Jordin Pruitt cd, a photo, a cute zwinkycuties.com tshirt, a zwinky magnet (a cat), and a cool usb drive that looks like a bracelet (my favorite thing!)
So - thank you very much IAC for sponsoring this event. We all enjoyed it and my girls are having lots of fun at the zwinkiycuties.com website.

The girls and I will be heading into NYC this afternoon for a launch party in Times Square. We were invited thanks to New Jersey Moms Blog. The girls are thrilled and, frankly, so am I! I love going into NYC and the girls get to play hooky miss half a day of school.
Keep watching my Flickr badge to see cell phone camera updates. I will add more pics when we get back.

Youngest and her Allergies
The year is starting off quite well for Youngest. ::knocking wood:: Turns out there's another child in her class who is also allergic to peanuts. I was happy to hear about that. Not that I wish food allergies on anyone but at least there can be strength in numbers. I haven't met the other mom, yet. I have a feeling we will meet at the first class party.
I did sign up to be a class mom for her third grade class. The teacher usually chooses me only because of her allergies. If for some reason I do not get chosen, I will be at all the parties anyway. Just try to keep me out - lol.

Second Day..
Well, the first day of school went smoothly for both girls. Eldest is digging her classes as she was selected for an all-honors courseload this year. We're quite happy about that and, even though she'll have more work than ever before, we know she can do it. We have to make sure she stays organized and on task.
Youngest has a few friends from last year's class with her in third grade this year. Unfortunately, she also has the little shit child who waved a peanut butter sandwich in her face last year in her class this year. I swear to God - if he does it again this year, I will have his little butt suspended for bullying.
But, perhaps there is strength in numbers. There is another child in her class also with fatal peanut/nut allergies. The teacher is pushing for a mostly peanut free class. I hope it happens but it's something that I cannot count on happening. Luckily, Youngest can handle the smell, as long as it's not overpowering. She is much more confident this year and it also helps that we have a FANTASTIC school nurse. Youngest really likes her and so do I.
I managed to get some shopping done and was home by 10am. I think I am going to go back to the mall and buy myself a new pair of glasses. While I love Sarah Palin's glasses - I think Anne Klein works well for me.

The girls got new glasses after school yesterday. Aren't they adorable?
