Bad Mom? You decide
Eldest and I were waiting for the bus this morning. The roads were clear of snow but her bus stop had piles of snow so I drove us over.
As we are sitting in the car, we're chatting. Small stuff. I had a question pop into my mind and I asked her if she brushed her teeth before we left. Now, to give her some credit, she's usually pretty good about getting ready in the morning once she is out of bed. It takes her FOREVER sometimes but she can manage to pull it together just in time.
After I asked her about her teeth, she sort of looked shocked and then instantly dismayed. She didn't brush her teeth. Now she's got morning breath with the added combination of a raisin bagel and a glass of milk. I'm looking around my car, trying to figure out what I could give to her to at least eliminate the bad breath. Nothing. I left my purse at home and I usually carry mints or gum. Then, I spot something in my car that just might work.
A lemon Starburst.
I handed it to her and said "Here, eat this!" Eldest looked stunned that I was handing her a piece of candy at 735am and actually telling her to chew on it. Then, the bus pulled around the corner and she immediately shoved it in her mouth before dashing out of the car with a quick "Bye Mom!"
So, what would you have done?

You found a perfectly logical solution considering the situation. I probably would have said, "Oh, well. Sucks to be you this morning," and shoved her onto the bus. This is why I am not a parent.
By the way, I realized I also hadn't brushed my teeth yet after reading this post. They're clean and fresh now.

I've done similar - however it only takes a few times for them to get tired of their friends saying something to them about it - especially girls.

A shot or two of whiskey covers up that morning breath rather nicely. Or so I'm told.

I'd do the same thing. And then encourage her to find a drinking fountain at school and do a thorough swish-n-spit.
