To be six again
A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, observing his wife, looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she'd like to have for her birthday.
"I'd like to be six again", she replied, still looking in the mirror.
On the morning of her birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. What
a day! He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, everything there was.
Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was
reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald's where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake.
Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favorite
candy, M&M's. What a fabulous adventure! Finally she wobbled home
with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted. He leaned over
his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, "Well dear, what was
it like being six again??"
Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. "I meant my dress size!"
The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is gonna get
it wrong.

Happy Sunday
WHEW!
I can't believe that school startes a week from this Wednesday. Not too much time left on summer vacation. Youngesthad a small dance recital on Saturday. It was awfully cute watching her in her hip-hop routine. Unfortunately, she has learned how to shake her little bum as well. Eeeek.
Let's see, what else? Oh, attempting to catch up on GS stuff for both troops. I think we've got a decent year planned out. Eldest's troop is saving money to go up to a dude ranch in upstate NY in the spring. They are all VERY excited about that. Heck, *I'm* excited about that! Youngestwants her troop to go but they are still a little young for a weekend away. I'm not ready to drag 16 little first graders out of state!
Tomorrow, the girls and I are headed to Staten Island to visit my step-sister and her daughter. We are all looking forward to that. Usually, our schedules are so crazy, it's hard to coordinate anything. I hope the weather holds up but, if it tanks, we'll go to the movies instead.
In home improvement news, the old bathroom is looking better and better. It's been difficult to invest a serious amount of time into it due to our crazy schedules last week. Today, Husband had to move and solder some pipes. We managed a quick run to (Home Away From) Home Depot for yet another sheet of sheetrock as well as $30 of assorted plumbing bits. The other day he brought home the new vanity and counter. The bathroom is going to look great. The walls, well, they are going to be somewhat plain and beige-ish. So, I am going to go with a funky shower curtain and towels. I'm thinking red!
Ok - I'm off to bed. G'night!

Scouts
I had an apoointment set up this morning to interview wo women who wanted to become Girl Scout leaders. I had to bring the girls with me, which was no problem. We get to the house and everyone is introduced to each other. The girls run off while Eldest chooses to sit and read a book. There were approxiamtely seven girls present, ranging in ages from five to seven with Eldest being the eldest at ten.
Let me tell you that I was shocked at the behavior of one particular child. She was, of course, the daughter of one of the women I was interviewing. Of course, it was her own home too. Anyway, this six year old girl had the entire house in an uproar. "I WANT this" and "It's MINE" were just a few of the phrases I would overhear. This child was freaking out and, literally, screaming in rage. She wasn't screaming words, she was just screaming. At this point, I couldn't leave fast enough.
When the girls and I got outside, we were all just sort of speechless. Youngestjust said "Wow" and Eldest agreed with "Yep".
Yep indeed.

Slightly Sunburned and Sleepy
We made it back home alive. Six Flags was fun - the girls definitely had a blast. I"ll try to upload some pictures to my Flickr account. I've got to get these lil buggers cleaned up and ready for bed!
Husband has an interesting recap on our day. Check out what he's got to say!

MORE home improvements
This turned out to be a great weekend for ripping up the original bathroom. Goodbye tacky linoleum, goodbye ugly (and leaking) toilet, goodbye vile, disgusting, putrid formica countertop. God, I hated that countertop!
All those horrible items are being replaced by Home Depot specials but at least they look a lot nicer that their previous counterparts. We didn't bring home the vanity and sink. That's going to happen later this week. Today, we picked out paint, vinyl tiles, luan, and a toilet. The paint colors are very neutral - some sort of beige. Not my first choice but it was a mutual decision. The other colors I chose were quite dark (I loved the raisin color!) and this bathroom does not have a window. Let me correct this startement - it HAD a window but the previous owners covered it up when they installed a shower/bathtub insert. Idiots.
So, Husband is busy laying the luan ::snicker:: while I assist him with other little helper duties. Plus, I am trying to get the girls to finish their rooms because tomorrow we will be at Six Flags Great Adventure. All day. According to the forecast, the weather is supposed to cooperate with us and stay somewhere in the high 80's. I hope the humidity is under control. I've got to remember to pack sunscreen.
I've got to run and finish "helping" Husband. Have a great day!

Finished!
Well, I've gotten pretty much all the necessities for the girls - sneakers and shoes, jeans, shirts.. all that fun stuff. Thank God for TJ Maxx and Old Navy. I picked up some great bargains from them and even free shipping from Old Navy (code DENIM). I thought I would have a tough time with Eldest and her sneakers as she really REALLY wanted a pair of etnies. Luckily, she settled for a pair of DCs instead. Cute, aren't they?

Famous Footwear was having a Buy 1 Get 1 Half Off, we looked for another pair for her. Since we didn't happen to find some for her, I somehow managed to find a pair for me instead. Cute, aren't they?

Eldest's at horseback riding camp and I'm off to do laundry while Youngestlounges on the couch with Spongebob. We're all having a great day!

Fabulous Day!
The weather has been so fantastic the past few days that I didn't even bother to post! High 80's, clear sunny skies... just gorgeous weather! We did get one freaky thunderstorm on Thursday for about an hour and then we lost power later that evening. Related? Not sure but thank goodness the weather was so cool or we would have roasted!
So, what have I been doing? Well, visiting the beach again, chauffering the kids around, horseback riding lessons, hip-hop classes, Girl Scout stuff, hosting sleepovers and playdates, that kind of fun. I worked with a friend today, cleaning houses on Long Beach Island. Not my favorite job but hey, it's a job nonetheless.
I'll try to get back into the swing of things as I can see that a regular schedule is necessary. I can't believe school starts in a mere 24 days. That just doesn't seem right...

Four weeks left
I've got four full weeks left of summer vacation. Where has the time gone? I can tell you where some of my time has been spent - I have been busy playing on Flickr. Talk about addicting....
I have been remiss about blogging lately. We have been doing a lot of work around the house in an attempt to finish up all the small jobs that needeed to be completed. We finished cleaning out our old master bedroom and, as it stands right now, it looks pretty nice. Of course, the paint needs to be touched up and the carpet needs a heavy duty steam cleaning.
The girls have been playing in here already. In fact, this morning, they scared the crap out of me by hiding in the closet.
When I woke up, I walked into the bedroom (where the computre is) with a cup of coffee and turned on the computer. While sitting here and drinking my coffee, I heard a subtle rattling noise. I walk over to the closet, concerned there was a mouse or some other critter in my room. When I opened the door, this is what I found:

At first, I was pissed because they DID manage to startle me.. and I hate that feeling. So, I scolded them and immediately felt bad once I saw the disappointed looks on their faces. Bad mommy. So, I made it up to them by letting them watch SpongeBob. And, as you all know, Spongebob makes it all better.
Ok, I'm off to prepare for the beach! Ciao!

Can you find Katespot?
AS you can only imagine - I have been pretty dang busy this past week. Let me give you some highlights...
1. Visiting Mom in the hospital. She was discharged yesterday so now I'll be going to the house to help her out.
2. The heat. Hey, Mother Nature, you can turn off the friggin' heat. We've had a few days over 100 degrees.
3. Speaking of heat, of COURSE poor Eldest has Girl Scout camp during the absolute hottest week during the summer. By the time she gets home, she's just drained.
4. Movies! Goody bags! Pizza! Today is Eldest's birthday party. So what that's it's being held almost a month after her birthday. Eldest and seven of her buddies will be attending the local movie theater to see Monster House. After the movie, we're going to hit the local pizza place for birthday pizza. Yum!
5. BBQ - I've got family coming down tomorrow for a small family "thing". You know, food, swimming, food...
I've got to bolt. Things to do!
Stay cool!

And we had fun fun fun
The fantastic and totally blogalicious Liz and her crew came down to my place for a visit on Thursday. I gave Liz the ten cent (and ten second!) tour of the house while the six kids all disappeared into one of the girls' bedrooms.
We decided to head right over to Long Beach Island and, well, I'll let the photos speak for themselves...

We all had a wonderful time. We were sorry to see them leave but Liz had an hour long ride home with four "slightly" sandy and sleepy children. I am looking forward to our next Mommy playdate get together!
