Friday! Friday!
Yeeehaw! It's Friday!
No GS meeting today as I have another PTA Family Fun Night event. Luckily, I didn't have to do too much for this one. It's a math program called Arithmetickles. It's completely audience dependant and the kids loved it. This company is at the school all week to work with grades K-6. Tonight is the Family Fun Night program. This should be lots of fun.
I've been badly neglecting this blog - to the point of me thinking about stopping completely. I haven't made the official decision so I'm not going anywhere for now. I am sorry that this blog has become, well, BLAH. I'm just not the type of writer that I would like to be.
There are many more bloggers that write their posts so eloquently, so witty... and here I write about PTA and Girl Scouts.
Gee - jealous much, Kate?
Not really jealous. Perhaps envious is a better word.
That's what I am - envious.

The Bathtub Test
During a visit to the mental hospital, a visitor asked the Director what criterion defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.
"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub."
"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the
bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup".
"No." said the Director, "A normal person would pull the drain plug. "Do you want a bed near a window?"

The Sopranos
Spoilers below.
MAN! Each episode gets better and better!
*I love Husbandie Walnuts although I did feel bad for him when he got kicked in *his* walnuts. I wanted to grab for my balls and I don't even have any balls! And, the scene in Tony's hospital room? I loved houw Husbandie essentially annoyed Tony out of his coma. Great scene.
*Vito continues to creep me out. I hope someone caps his not-so-fat ass soon. How about when he put his hand on Finn's wrist? Man, I got goosebumps! Eeeek!
*Poor Silvio. The pressure got to him pretty quickly, the poor bastid.
*Chris and his movie business? Bwahahahaha! CLEAVER? Oh my GAWD! The pitch session for his movie - PRICELESS!
*Carm and Dr. Melfi - I'm so glad they got together. Carmela might actually take some responsibility...
*House = Hell? I loved seeing Tony B as the escort into the house. How about the little girl aka Meadow calling for Tony not to go. Did anyone notice the old woman in the house. Livia perhaps?
*Husbandie and Vito having to pony up the moolah to Carm. Just the looks on their faces - priceless!
*"Sometimes I go about in pity for myself, and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky" - Ojibwe saying that was on Tony's message board in his hospital room.
*SO glad Tony is awake. I couldn't belive Chrissy's attitude with Tony.. all because he basically narked on Ade? Jerkwad.
So - anyone want to share their opinion of tonight's show?

I'm BACK!
I know you all missed me so much too.
Husband has kicked some ass working on the house this weekend. The second bathroom is *just* about finished. YAY! Next step - the closet. Woohoo!
The girls had a great weekend. Eldest slept over a friend's house Friday night and spent the majority of Saturday there as well. Her friend's little sister is the same age as Youngestand they are also pretty good buddies. So, the lil sis came over to our house on Saturday and the girls had a blast. The trampoline, movies, crafts, popcorn...a good time was had by all. By the time Eldest got home Saturday, she was so toasted. Both girls made it into bed by 815pm Saturday night.
Today, we ran a few errands, you know, the Kmart and Home Depot run. The really fun places to bring your children. ::snicker:: I was lucky enough to go through Eldest's closet and bureau, having her try on clothing and pulling out what didn't fit. Oy - it's a rather large pile. I did the same to Youngest's closet and bureau and that pile is even bigger. God help me when I have to pick up more stuff for them when the weather warms up. A lot of Eldest's shorts still fit her in the waist but they are too short in the leg. They have become, essentially, short shorts. I don't freakin' THINK so!
Ok - off to recap the Sopranos in another post. Catch ya later!

WORLDS SHORTEST FAIRY TALE.
Brilliant!
Once upon a time, a girl asked a guy "Will you marry me?"
The guy said, "NO!"
And the girl lived happily ever after and went shopping, dancing, camping, drank martinis, always had a clean house, never had to cook and farted whenever she wanted.

Hello there
I'm just title-challenged. Nothin' good jumping to mind today.
I had a lovely chat with Miz "Yes Ma'am" Chrissy. We always have fun on the phone. We always get each other laughing. I'm hoping to maybe possibly hopefully set up a road trip to visit the Feisty Family.
I'm a-workin' on it!

Funny
I dropped my car at the local Lube Dr for a 10 minute oil change. Husband and I have been customers here for several years and it's a nice little place. Plus, I am out usually within 10 minutes. Booyah!
There was only one other customer in the lobby, waiting for his truck. I settled down to wait in one of those comfy resin chairs and checked out what was on television. It was a "Today-esque" type of show airing on MSNBC. One of the hosts was interviewing Erica Jong and he asked her why her book caused such a stir with America in the early 70's. She explained what the book was about and how America wasn't ready to hear about such things.
I've never read her book so her interview, albeit brief, was quite interesting.
Upon wrapping up the interview, she did mention about a famous New York lawyer (she didn't name him) who had remarked to her that every time her saw Jong's book on his date's table, he knew he was going to get lucky tonight. I laughed aloud and so did the other customer. He had already paid for the service on his truck but was waiting to hear the end of the interview.
After we both laughed, he turned to me, right before walking out the door and said in a most matter of fact voice, "I've never seen that book!" Again, he and I both laughed and then he walked out to his truck.
So - that was my fun morning. What's up with you? Any good Sopranos talk?

Sopranos
May contain some spoilers - read at your own risk!
Tonight's episode was brilliant... I can't wait to watch it again on Tuesday.
*I loved the whole limbo theme - Mobster Tony vs Precision Optics Tony, heaven/hell... In the beginning of the show, did anyone catch the first bright beacon of light that shone on Tony? Did you see the doctor shining a light on him? Very cool indeed!
*Two words - Van Helsing. Husbandie rocks. I totally cracked up with that line.
*Tony - watch out for Not-So-Wide Guy aka Vito. He's up to no good.
*Edie Falco totally deserves an Emmy for tonight's performance. I was tearing up just watching the hospital scenes..
*I hate Janice. She's a selfish bitch. All that sobbing and poor Carm had to console her? WTF?
*SO happy to see Ro back although Carm was a mean bitch to her. Ro was on the money with her assessment of AJ. Carm got her panties in a knot about it and zipped her with a very cutting remark about Jackie Jr. Ouch.
*AJ calling Uncle Joon a "mummy head". Personally, I think Uncle Joon looks like the Six Flags dancing guy. What do you think?

Break Point
Recap - will add photos later.
Yesterday:
*Kids had a half day yesterday so I did laundry - for four hours. Bleech.
*Stopped at Mom's new place and ended up staying for about 2 hours, helping direct movers with boxes. She has a LOT of boxes, quite a few of which are going into the basement. Those poor moving guys earned their money yesteday. They were doing stairs ALL day. Here's a funny moment. One of the workers came in with some boxes, walked up to Mom and said, in a tired but heavily Mexican accented voice, "Ehhh, basement?" He was really tired of the basement. Cna't say I blame him one bit. But, for the rest of the time I was there, I would walk up to Mom and mutter "Ehhh, basement?" Needless to say, we would giggle each time. We were still giggling about it today.
*We got back home and I set up dinner in the oven. Husband walked in and Eldest and I decided to run out and deliver more Girl Scout cookies.
*Back home and got ready to go to a Girl Scout meeting from 615pm-815pm.
*Home again - kids to bed by 9pm. Husband and I did bills and I worked on more PTA paperwork.
*Passed out while watching Family Guy on Adult Swim. Again.
Today:
*Got the kids up and moving. We just missed Youngest's bus - so I chased the bus down.. and caught up with it by the next stop. We got out and sprinted for the bus. Wow - so invigorating. I hate invigorating. I don't run. Ever. The only way I would run is if someone is chasing me with a knife. A big knife.
*Called Mom, picked up coffee, water, and rolls and arrived at Mom's place by 915am.
*I did manage to unpack most of her food and find a proper home for them - only after rearranging the cabinets and drawers five or six times. Can you say OCD? I knew you could.
*The appliances (fridge, washer and dryer) are being delivered today. In fact, they are probably already there and, hopefully, ready to run!
*Comcast really sucks. Wait, let me reiterate - the service guy, who came out yesterday and didn't do his friggin' job at Mom's place, sucks. The lovely young lady, to whom I spoke with today, rocks. It does suck that they can't hook up anything until Tuesday. TUESDAY! No tv and no computer.
*We will be having a Girl Scout event at the local karate place at 430pm today. Both troops will be there - roughly about 25 girls. Heh. The sensai was ok with it. Poor bastard.
Tomorrow:
*The girls will be sleeping over at my inlaws house tomorrow. And, you all know what that means, right? RIGHT?.
*I'm going back tomorrow to do food shopping for Mom and Dan. Husband will set up the computer and accessories.
I was so dusty and dirty from opening boxes. Ugh. I needed to jump into the shower when I got back home this afternoon. Imagine my surprise to find a box from these people that was sent by this lovely lady. So, my quick shower was changed into a nice long luxurious soak. At 130pm in the afternoon. Can you say nice and peaceful? Normally, I don't take baths - I just shower. I think I might need to rethink the no bath thing again. Hey - I smell nice too!
Thank you my dear friend. I *heart* you!

Moving Day
Mom and Dan are moving to their new place today. They've hired a moving company who is sending six men with two trucks. Let me tell you that those six men will be earning their money today. They have lots and lots AND lots of stuff to move. The girls have a half day today so we can shoot over to the new place around 2pm. Hopefully, the cable guy will show up between his scheduled times of 3pm-5pm. Then, we get to rocket back home so I can cook dinner and run out to a GS service unit meeting.
I've got to work on some PTA family fun night paperwork so I can't stay and chat with you. To all the wonderful people who ordered cookies from Eldest, they will be coming soon. I promise!

It's a man, baby!
::cough cough::
Yeah, I'm the manly sounding one around here. I've finally succumbed to the cold that the girls and Husband had the past few weeks. So, I've got the wicked cough and a voice that sounds like Demi Moore after a few packs of Luckys.
Oh yeah - seeeexxxyyyy. rowr.
::cough cough::
Yeah - I'm so hot. Maybe I'm feverish.

Perhaps she bit off more then she could chew?
School officials on Tuesday fired a middle school teacher charged with biting a student who would not spit out a piece of candy.
Caroline Kolb pleaded not guilty in Jefferson County District Court to fourth-degree aggravated assault for allegedly biting the 14-year-old student on the back during a classroom altercation in January.
Jefferson County Public Schools fired Kolb for insubordination and conduct unbecoming a teacher following a district investigation, according to a copy of her termination letter obtained by The Courier-Journal.
The letter said that Kolb at one point denied intentionally biting Garrick Hudson.
A call on Tuesday by The Associated Press to Kolb's attorney, William Rump, was not immediately returned.
Lauren Roberts, a spokeswoman for the school district, said Kolb received the termination letter Tuesday.
"Based on the evidence," Roberts said, "termination was deemed the appropriate action in this case."
The student's mother, Cassandra Hicks, said the incident occurred Jan. 11 when her son disobeyed Kolb's order to spit out some candy. Kolb told him to stand in the hallway, but he returned to get his books, she said.
As Kolb and Garrick struggled over the books, he fell and hit his head and she "started biting him on his left upper shoulder."
Garrick was treated at Kosair Children's Hospital for a bite wound, according to court records. He also had a small knot on his head.
According to Kolb's termination letter, two students said they saw her bite him, and several staff members said they later heard Kolb admit doing so.
"You denied biting the student but admitted that you found fabric in your mouth during the incident," the letter stated.
Before her firing, Kolb had been reassigned to non-instructional duties.
In 2004 and 2005, administrators had warned Kolb to avoid being physically confrontational with students, according to her termination letter.

Sopranos
Spoilers and discussion below.
Holy crap! What a way to end the first show. I had heard that someone bites it in the first - guess that rumor was true! Phil is such a sneaky bastid. Hesh's son in law - that poor slob. Beat up AND hit by a car. Uncle Junior is derranged. I totally called what was gonna happen to Tony. I said to Husband "Joon is going to shoot him!" And, he got shot! I felt bad for Eugene and his family. The scene where he hung himself - Oh man, that was awful.
What is the deal with the sushi? Why was that so predominate in this episode? Is it that Tony and Carm are so wealthy they can eat there all the time?
OK - so what did YOU think of the season premiere of The Sopranos?

The Letter People
Perhaps some of you remember the wedding.
Today's Show and Tell is all about the Letter People. Each child had to choose a letter person and dress like that particular character. Youngestchose Ms W.
This is what Ms W looks like:

Isn't she cute? The W represents "Wonderful Words" and if you look closely, Ms W has words written on her shirt. Ms W also has green hair. Youngestwanted to dress like Ms W. This is what she and I came up with last night and she modeled it for me this morning

Youngestlooks a little Rastafarian in the first picture but I wasn't about to spray her hair green. So, I whipped up the hat last night and just added green yarn for "hair". I love the second picture. She's such a lil stinker!

Busy Day
No posting yesterday as Husband was home and we needed to get busy.
::wink wink nudge nudge::
Yeah baby - the taxes got done! That's HOT! We even went out to lunch after we discovered we needed to stop at the municiple building to get some misplaced property tax numbers.
We pay a lot in property tax. Ouch. Good thing our refund is decent.
Husband and I even had a chance to stop at KMart and browse through vacuums, towels, curtains and even the bedding. We've both got some ideas about what neeeds to be done and what colors or styles we'd like to use. We don't quite see eye to eye for the kitchen window but we agree on most everything else. I think it's time we need to check out Target and perhaps Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things. One good thing about KMart - we bumped into my friend Lauren (who's doing the letter writing campaign.) Do you knwo she's gotten over 450 responses? How fantastic!
::sidenote::
Do you know that a BB&B opened down here - not more than 7 miles from my house and I've NEVER been in there? Seriously.
I need some good recomendations from you guys - where do you purchase bedding/curtains/towels? What's a good deal? Or, is it better to invest slightly more money and get better quality?
I've got to run- must get Youngestto school and hit WalMart. I'm getting my teeth cleaned at 940am. Guess I'd better brush and floss before I hit the road.
Ciao!

Support is Needed
I spoke with my friend Lauren this morning and she informed me of a very sad news story. A 21 year old soldier from Kokomo Indiana was killed February 22 when an IED (improvised explosive device) detonated near his Humvee during patrol operations in Hawijah, Iraq.

The horrible part of the story is this -
The family of the soldier has had their home vandalized and they've also received very disturbing telephone calls where the caller said "I’m glad your son is dead." The full story is here. This particular group is headed by the Westboro Baptist Church and that disgustig excuse of a human being - Fred Phelps. I really find it hard to believe that "God Hates Fags". The Bible can be twisted to support nearly any belief. I am horrified and sickened by these actions. Losing one's child is hard enough - having to listen to insults and read signs like "God Made IEDs" would make the funeral unbearable beyond belief.
Lauren decided to head up a letter campaign to send to the grieving family. So far, she's received over 350 emails in response. I know she can count on me and my family. I'd be honored to have a few of you guys also help out. If you are interested, just leave me a comment and I will forward your request to her right away.
Thanks.

Workin' for the weekend?
More like working ON the weekend. I'm taking a break from packing up the contents of my Mom's china cabinets. Good LORDY - she has an incredible amount of stuff. A lot of them are very good pieces and some are quite old. It's pretty neat to be able to look at a piece and know that my great-grandmother once owned it.
Ok - I'm heading home. I think there's a nice hot shower with my name on it. And, if I'm super lucky, Husband will massage my back with BenGay.
Hubba hubba!

Up and at 'em
So I missed yesterday... oh well...
The girls and I are going to a Girl Scout event at the mall this morning. It's called - wait for it -
Mall Day.
There's going to be a scavenger hunt that involves all the service units in the county. It's going to be fun. We've done it before and (BONUS!) the girls get a free patch. It's ALL about the patches baby.
Afterwards, we are going to Mom's house to help her pack just about everything. LOL. Mom owns me for the next three weekends. I promised to pack up all her dishes and china.
I've got to wake the slugs girls. They were so busy having playdates and Girl Scout meetings and dinners with other people that they CRASHED out last night by 930pm. Now, I get to wake them up - mwahahahahahahaaaaa!
Ciao!

REALLY?
I NEVER would have guessed.
[/heavy sarcasm]
(full story here)
Brad and Angelina, Tom and Katie, Nick and Jessica -- it seems people can’t get enough of hearing about the gritty details of celebrities’ lives.
It's called being "star struck" and it's a phenomenon that is not only bigger than life -- it's bigger than ever.
"You have a confluence of forces coming together in technology and the media to make it happen and it's worldwide and it's multiplying like lice," says Stuart Fischoff, PhD, spokesman for the American Psychological Association and professor emeritus of media psychology at the California State University at Los Angeles.
Indeed, from the international mania of the New York Post's Page Six, to increasing circulation of celebrity-driven publications like People, US, OK, and In Style, to the cult star status of gossip reporters like Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart and the New York Daily News’ Rush & Malloy, there is no question that all-things-celebrity have captured -- and are keeping -- our attention like never before.
But what drives our endless fascination with celebrity worship? And more importantly, can its enticing seduction ever be harmful to our health?
The answer, it seems, depends a lot on who is doing the worshipping --and the reasons why.

Household of sickies
Oy - enough already!
I've got poor Husband home sick for the second day in a row. Eldest's not doing too hot so she's back home today. Of course, Youngest's all mopey and whiny - "Why do I have to gooooooooooooooooo to schoolllllllllllllllllll?" and my favorite "It's not fair!"
Ok. Right.
So, Eldest's getting another nebulizer treatment - I think there's a chance she might be heading into pneumonia. Good times!
I think I need some Girl Scout cookie therapy. Who wants to join me?
