It's a Party

Pity party - table for one.

Unless, of course, someone would care to join me...

Anyone?

I'll bring cookies...

Sickie Watch Day 2

I've got Eldest home again today - minor fever and sore throat. So, I scored a 1050am pedi appointment for her. Guess who's going to get a strep test? Not me! LOL! Today is also a half day of school. Of course, Youngestwanted to stay home (no way) because Eldest was home. She got booted to the bus stop and she's outta here until 1pm.

Today is also the Cookie Depot! Woohoo! I'm going to help the cookie mom - who is also our assistant leader - load up about 100 cases of cookies in her van. Since I can't make it to the gym, it will be one hell of a workout! Mom is coming down to watch the girls for me while I work. For all of you who have ordered cookies - they are on their way!

Ciao for now!

It's Monday!

YAY! The kids are back at school! Well, almost all the kids.

I've got Eldest home today. She's got a sore throat and a slight fever. So, she gets to be dragged around with me today while Youngestis at school. Lucky her.

I discovered Gone With the Wind on the TCM channel last night. I was surprised that Eldest was really interested in the movie. I love that movie and I am so glad that Eldest watched it with us. Of course, after that was over, I flicked over to Dancing With The Stars. Yes... I too was also sucked in to watching this show. I was very pleased that Drew and Cheryl won - they kicked ass! There's a nice recap of the show here along with a photo of Drew and Cheryl.

I was surfing the channels late last night and caught an interview with Glenn Reynolds on C-Span. I think I missed a minute or two but I enjoyed the interview. It's always interesting to listen to other perspectives on blogging. Here are the transcripts - I read through them and discovered that Mr. Reynolds is a very interesting man.

Ok - I'm off to get some stuff done and drag Eldest around. Have a great day!

My social life

My social life is quite hectic. Seriously, it is. You see, I was unable to post yesterday because I was invited to a wedding. The wedding was a beautiful occasion. The bride (let's call her Ms U) looked lovely and the groom (we'll call him Mr. U), well, he was just so handsome in his tuxedo.

This event was difficult due to the limited guest list. Quite a few people were not invited due to space constraints. Luckily, just about everyone who did not attend was quite understanding. I was able to take some photographs of the couple and I've posted them below.

The happy couple:

qu.jpg

Oh - did I neglect to mention that the wedding was set in the school gymnasium? And that it was for the kindergarten class only? Welcome to the Land of the Letter People! Q and U got married! The kids loved the wedding and reception.

Today, Youngestwas invited to another birthday party. She got to go swimming!

She sure loves to swim!

Eldest is out with one of my SIL and is probably having a great time. My FIL, BIL, and Husband are working in the addition. I'm getting tile set in my bathroom - YIPPIE!!!

Pay no attention to the walls - they will be a MUCH lighter shade of pink:

Ok - off to fold laundry!

Breaking the Silence

I've been uberbusy organizing things for our Thinking Day event. The Girl Scouts will be participating in International Night. The Juniors are representing Germany. They've made a flag, write up a poster of assorted facts, and bring a food item - enough for 150-200 girls. Luckily, the assistant leader's MIL is from Germany and was thrilled to help out by making cookies. Woohoo! I didn't think that I could provide beer and schnitzel to the kids. : - )

I've also caved in and tuned into last night's American Idol. Yes, I know... I can't believe it either. Now, I'm afraid I am hooked. Ryan Seacrest is one weird looking dude with a big plastic looking smile. Eww. He squicks me out.

I'll try to post some photos of the event later. I've just been so damn busy with life that I barely have time to do anything else.

How the hell are you?

Somewhat productive

I made it to Youngest's classroom, the gym and even some food shopping.

God, I'm good. LOL.

I have to pick up Eldest from school in about an hour. The trombone doesn't fit on the bus. When she gets home, I've got some more cleaning to do before I grab Youngestfrom the bus. Eldest starts her horseback riding lessons today and she is thrilled. THRILLED. She's been planning what to wear and even has her jodhpurs all laid out in her room. My mom brought her a riding helmet for Christmas as well as the jodphurs. Mom is coming down this afternoon for a surprise visit with the girls. She is also planning on watching Eldest ride.

I've got to get changed as I am still in my workout clothes. I hope everyone is having a good Tuesday.

Blogging from NW Jersey

Have you missed me? I know you have.

I've just been so busy the past two days - I haven't had time to blog! Today, me and the family are visiting Mary. Husband is helping her fix her heating ducts and furnace. It's messy work and we've left her a nice pile of dust and crap all over her house. I told her that when we all visit, we have the ability to generate quite a nice pile of trash!

Gee, doesn't that make you want to have us visit you too?

Mary lives roughly 2 hours from us so we won't be getting home until at least 1am. Oy! Well, the kids are loving hanging around Miss Mary's house, eating cookies and chips for snacks. LOL - it's good to be a kid!

I'm signing off. I am SO sleeping in tomorrow!

::yawn::

Yeah - I'm still alive.

I decided to keep Youngesthome today. The muscles in her legs were very sore, causing difficulty in standing and bearing her weight. I called the ENT's office and apparently being sore/sore muscles is a direct result from the anesthesia.

I'm still keeping an eye on her.

Another fun-filled moment with Olivia: administering her ear drops. Four drops per ear twice a day. Let me assure you that this wee petite and delicate flower of a child can fight like a momma bear defending her cubs. Her lungs are quite healthy too. In fact, tonight, she was screaming so hard (while fighting Husband and I) that she actually popped a tiny blood vessel in her left eye.

Seriously. She did.

As you can tell, she is not a huge fan of the ear drops. She needs drops for three more days. Oy already.

And now for something completely different

Here's a fun link I stumbled across during my Internet surfing: Jersey Pork Roll. My dear Zonker, as a misguided Jersey boy, I think you'd love this place. You can't buy this stuff in Georgia.

Ok - I'm off to watch Adult Swim. G'night.

So - I lied

I did run laundry but I decided to stay up and watch In Her Shoes. I've had it for about a week and I need to send it back to Netflix. What a fantastic movie. I really enjoyed the book and the movie didn't disappoint me at all. I am not a Toni Colette fan but I loved her performance. Even Cameron Diaz - wow - she was incredible. I think I have a crush on Mark Feuerstein. He's such a cutie! Why haven't I seen him around?

Ok - NOW I'm going to bed! G'night!

Posted by Cate at 11:13 PM | Comments (2)

The end of the day

The girls just got stuffed into bed.

Praise Jesus.

It's been one helluva long day. Husband and I woke up at 530am and started getting things ready. We woke Eldest around 545am and Youngeststaggered out a few minutes later. I helped Youngestget dressed and we picked out a favorite teddy bear and blanket for today's procedure. While I was busy, Husband fed Eldest a fine breakfast of champions.

Here's an interesting donut facts - these particular donuts have 26 grams of fat. EACH. I can't even imagine how many Weight Watcher points it would be. Those are some tasty donuts but I've been good. I haven't had any. When I was pregnant with Eldest, I used to chow those puppies down. God, how nasty.

Anyway, we made it to Same Day surgery (same place where you went Mom) and everything was good. Youngesthung in there and was quite the trooper. The only time she lost it was when she was getting wheeled into the OR. The look on her face - she was so scared - and then crying hysterically.... Oy. It's hard being a Mommy.

Her doctor came out 15 minutes after she was wheeled in and said that everything went smoothly and she was still sleeping. We got to see her about 30 minutes later and she was fine. Smiling and happy to see us. A little bit after that, we were all able to go home. Youngestgot a bit of a nosebleed right before we made it home and she was flipping out. I handed her a napkin and tried to calm her down. She calmed down a little bit as Husband turned down our street and then into the driveway. I jumped out and unlocked the front door. Husband carried Youngestinside and put her on the couch. As I was taking off my coat, Youngeststarts to scream. When I say scream, I really mean SCREAM. Apparently, when Husband moved the napkin, more blood spurted out and Youngestfreaked. Can't say I blame her for flipping out - it looked pretty gross. Again, I calmed her down and the bleeding stopped.

Without rambling on and on, to sum it up, the day was looong. Both girls were home, Husband and I were (and still are) exhausted and I totally got lazy and fed the family a fine meal of McDonalds. I am going to do a few loads of laundry, take a shower then go to bed!

So - how the hell are you?

Posted by Cate at 07:52 PM | Comments (3)

She's home

Youngest's procedure went smoothly this morning and we are already home.
Of course, when the nurses and doctors wheeled her away as she was crying, my heart was breaking. But, she's ok now and that's all that matters.

I'm off to tend to the munchkin.

Here's the poop..errr...scoop!

No strep! Woohoo!

As long as her fever is around 99-100, we can proceed with the ear tube procedure tomorrow morning at 630am. Egads! She cannot eat or drink anything after midnight so I will be waking her up around 1145pm to give her motrin. I hope the fever stays down. If it ramps up, the procedure will be postponed to another time. My poor baby. I hope this works for her.

Youngestmissed her class party today and she was a bit bummed out. But, I bought her a Coca Cola flavored slurpee/slushie whatchamacallit and she was a happy camper once again. I'm off to attempt to run a load (or six) of laundry. You should see the mountain of laundry that I have to fold.

Ew.

Hot Blooded

Guess who's got a fever of 103?

My poor baby. There's a strep outbreak in her class. 7 kids were home sick yesterday. Now she is home sick today and missing her class party. She was one bummed out kid. We're heading out to the pedi right now.

I hope it's not strep. I hope it's not strep.

Heh

I got this gem in my inbox.

A guy stuck his head into a barbershop and asked, "How long before I can get a haircut?" The barber looked around the shop full of customers and said, "About 2 hours." The guy left.

A few days later the same guy stuck his head in the door and asked, "How long before I can get a haircut?" The barber looked around at the shop and said, "About 3 hours." The guy left.

A week later the same guy stuck his head in the shop and asked, "How long before I can get a haircut?" The barber looked around the shop and said, "About an hour and half." The guy left.

The barber turned to a friend and said, "Hey, Bill, do me a favor. Follow that guy and see where he goes. He keeps asking how long he has to wait for a haircut, but then he doesn't ever come back".

A little while later, Bill returned to the shop, laughing hysterically. The barber asked, "So where does that guy go when he leaves?" Bill looked up, tears in his eyes and said,

"Your house."

There's been a delay...

Delayed opening, that is.

The kids were thrilled to be able to sleep in but still bummed out about actually having to GO to school. Husband has today off - I'm pretty psyched about that. I'm sure all you ladies can guess why two adults, who just happen to be home alone, would be happy to spend time together.

::wink wink nudge nudge::

So we can go to Home Depot! To buy flooring!

:::whistles blowing,hands clapping::

Ok, maybe not ALL of you would go to the Depot but I want flooring for the addition and today is the PERFECT day to do it. The girls will be at school, which means no crying and whining (by me because we had to drag the kids with us) in Home Depot. I hate dragging the girls there. They are SUCH pains in the butt whenever we go there - you'd think that a 9 and 6 year old would LOVE going to a home improvements store. ::snicker::

Husband and I need new snow boots. The pair I bought last year are good but they are only ankle high. Not good when there are 12" drifts in the driveway. I also need to drop off the Valentines Day cards to the local nursing home. I hope that goes well and the residents enjoy the cards.

I'm off to drive Eldest to school. Ciao!

Well, at weigh in, I'm down .8lbs. I'm a little disappointed but I wasn't able to go to the gym at all last week. In fact, today was my first day back. So, I warmed up by walking a 22 minute mile on the treadmill (yeah, I'm slow) and then did my 30 minute circuit at Curves. I earned 4 activity points! WOOHOO!

Deja vu all over again

Today's entry is brought to you by the letter B, the number 2, (as in teaspoons)and sponsored by the Pfizer corporation. Don't you know the song that Cookie Monster sings? "B is for Benadryl"? It's the number 1 hit in my house this week.

logo_benadryl.gif

Last night, while we were watching movies, Youngeststarted her allergy coughing. We had no clue what was causing it but we gave her benadryl (thank you Pfizer for creating benadryl. It's truly been a life saver) and a nebulizer treatment. She ended up falling alseep, wrapped in a blanket and all curled up on Eldest's beanbag chair. I carried her into bed and she was out for the night.

Later in the evening, Husband and I got ready for bed. I flicked on the tv and we watched tv for a little while. I must have fallen asleep because, the next thing I know, Husband woke me up. He was having an allergic reaction - hives everywhere on his body. Feet, hands, back, legs.. you name it. He took a large dose of benadryl and jumped into the shower. At this point. neither one of us knew what the hell was causing his reaction. It's been a long time since I've witnessed a reaction with Husband.

He got out of the shower and was still very itchy and quite uncomfortable. I had him take more benadryl and then I covered him with extra strength benadryl spray. He was certain there was something on or in the bedsheets. We sat in the couch, at 1230am, discussing what the hell might have caused this. He didn't eat anything different nor did I, therefore eliminating food contamination. We also realized that Youngestwas most likely affected due to her reaction earlier in the evening. We hashed it out and finally came to the conclusion that Husband most likely brought home peanut butter on his jeans.

Where Husband works, there are operators that work overnights. One guy, who worked overnight the past couple nights, makes himself PB&J sandwiches at work. Husband thinks he might have brushed up against a table that had trace amounts of peanut butter on it and got it on his jeans. It makes sense. Youngestwas all over Husband last night and it could have just been enough to trigger her response. When Husband got changed for bed, he most likely got it on his hands and rubbed his face or arms. His reaction was lightening fast. He had pulled out the epi-pen and was thisclose to using it. Thankfully, the benadryl worked quickly. Another ER trip avoided.

So, for every one of you who thinks that peanut allergies (or any other food allergies) are a load of bunk, well, you are sadly mistaken.

Relaxing night

The four of us have planned on chilling out tonight. Girl Scouts went smoothly - we only had 8 girls show up at the meeting! When we got home, I made the family a lovely healthy meal consisting of mini hot dogs, chicken nuggets and tater tots. Of course, I cut up some carrots for them too!

We had received three Netflix selections and we are going to watch Napoleon Dynomite after we've finished with the Star Trek TOS Episodes 1 & 2. Man, I do love William Shatner.

Hope you had a great day!

I'm going in

Yep - I've got a doctor's appointment at 945am. I can't take this neck pain. It's not at painful as it was on Monday but the pain is still waking me up at night. And that, my friends, that really sucks.

I'm going to drive Youngestto school, run to the bank, visit my doc, get some drugs (I hope!) and do some MUCH needed food shopping. I'm down to the bare bones!

Wish me luck!

That was scary

Had a bit of a scare earlier this evening. Youngestwas invited to a friend's house after school today. I had no intention of just dropping her off and saying "See ya!" Oh no - not with food allergies. Until I know you better and I am confident you can administer an Epi-Pen, I stay.

So, the girls played while we, the adults, chatted. There is another child in the home, a two and a half year old boy. He's cute.. and spoiled. Maybe not spoiled but just busy. And loud. VERY loud. Good lord, that boy was loud!

I had a nice time, chatting with the other mom. She's very very pregnant and due right about now. We stayed for about ninety minutes and, right as I was getting stuff together so we could leave, Youngeststarted to cough. Not just any cough. It was "the cough", the type of cough that sends me on high alert. I hustled her out as quickly (and politely) as I could and we hauled ass home.

As soon as we got home, she ran into the bathroom to get a drink while I prepped her benedryl dose. She took it and then I changed her clothes and wiped her down. She was wheezing but able to speak to me. I prepped her nebulizer and watched her while she used it. Thankfully, it worked and we didn't have to rush to the ER. For a moment there, my nerves were shot. I knew I would be able to give her the epi but I do dread the day when I actually have to do it.

Youngestand I figured out that there must have been crumbs on the couch or rug where they were playing in the living room. Or, there could have been trace remains on the table where all three kids were coloring. Ahh - the joys of food allergies. Contaminates everywhere.

Thankfully, Youngestis fine. She ate a good dinner, is all showered and squeaky clean and now foraging around for a snack. I'm off to feed my "starving" daughter.

WW update

Upon weigh-in this morning, I discovered that I am down three more pounds, bringing my total loss to 7.6.

Go me!

Gotta run - Youngest's got gymnastics.

Achy Breaky

My neck is still hurting. I am going back to the chiro today and I really hope it helps more today. I am SO sore and the past 3 mornings have pretty much sucked. I can't lift heavy things.. can't go to the gym.. can't turn my head... bitch moan bitch moan.... I might have to actually break down and call my primary doc and see if he can prescribe something because 800mg of ibuprofen ain't touching the pain.

Off to Weight Watchers - I think I'm only down a couple pounds. Poo.
