Down for the Count

Remember when I said that Youngestwas home from school? She was hacking and coughing so Husband brought her to the pediatrician yesterday. Not only did I screw up the appointment time - I thought the receptionist said 5:45 instead of 4:45 - the poor kid has walking pneumonia AND an ear infection. What a way to start the weekend.

Obviously, she's home from school today. She was most upset because her table was going to be able to pick a prize from the treasure box. I told her that I was sure her teacher would let her pick a prize on Monday. She didn't look too pleased with my response but she'll get over it. Her teacher is pretty cool - I like her a lot.

Ok - I'm off to tend to the sick and needy, Catch ya later!

I can't believe I forgot about Banned Book Week. Michele wrote a great entry about it. Here's a list of the most challenged authors:

2004 Most Challenged Authors

Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, author of the Alice series
Robert Cormier, author of The Chocolate War and We All Fall Down
Judy Blume, author of Blubber, Forever, and Deenie

I scream, you scream...

Tonight, our service unit is having an Early Bird ice cream and bingo for all the Girl Scouts who registered early for this upcoming year. It's always a lot of fun and I will have approximately 12-13 girls showing up for ice cream.

I'm going to try out my camera tonight!

WTF?

There's a reason for the title of this post. Bear with me and read through and let me know what you think.

I decided to drive both girls into school today. Youngestwas up a lot last night, coughing and hacking. Damn you seasonal allergies! ::shaking fist:: Due to that, we all awoke a little behind schedule this morning. By driving them in, even though I had to drive to two different schools for two different homeroom times, it allowed me some extra time in the house.

We left at 750am, made it to Eldest's school with no problems. Did the kisses, the I love yous and the drop-off. Now, it's 8am. Youngestdidn't need to be at school until 845am so I made the executive decision to make a quick detour at Pathmark. Man, I've got to start food shopping at 8am more often. There was hardly anyone in the store besides the employees. Of course, the downside, some of the shelves weren't fully stocked with the items I needed so I foresee another quick trip in the next day or two. Also, the pharmacy was closed. Bummer indeed.

I was rung up, bagged and ready to go at 830am. Not bad. I loaded the car with groceries, one child and I was off! While driving towards Youngest's school, I passed a woman with a child in the back, driving a Ford Escape with those fake bullet holes on the side of the vehicle. Now, I am all up for pimping out your ride but to willingly place bullet holes, oh excuse me, fake bullet holes on the side of your car? What are you telling people? What is your message? That you've been shot at and survived?

"Oooh, don't mess with that mom!"
"Why?"
"She's got fake bullet holes on her car."
"Wow - she must be tough."

Whatever.

So, here I am, at 915 in the morning, having already unpacked and put away groceries, sitting with a cuppa tea, bitching about another parent on my blog.

Yeah, it's good to be me.

Just popping by

I'm cleaning today. I made it to Curves and I guess I've still got an energy kick. I tore up my bedroom and dusted everything and even managed to throw away a pile of stuff. Go me!

Husband's got school tonight. The bad news is that it's a two hour drive to get there for a three hour class then two hours BACK home. He won't be home until almost 11pm. AND - he'll be doing that twice a week until the second week of January. Poor guy.

Well, I'm off to clean some more and try to figure out what to create for dinner. Ciao!

Sending out a package

I ran a few errands this morning and then stopped at Wally-Mart to grab a few thing. Heh, a few things indeed. While shopping, I was wondering what I could send in a package to my soldier. I called my friend Lauren (hi!) and asked her what kind of foods could be shipped overseas. Thanks to all her help, my soldier will be eating some very yummy snacks - Little Debbie, granola bars, Pringles, peanut butter, a box of crackers, single plastic containers of Chef Boyardee, Tootsie Rolls, Milk Duds... all kinds of stuff. Youngestis drawing him a picture so I can add that to the box. I will have Eldest draw something for him too.

Gotta run.. catch ya later.

Tick tock

I'm still waiting for Lowes to show up with all my stuff. When I arranged for delivery, I was told it would be there in the morning. The delivery guy called me about 40 minutes ago and told me that it would arrive between 2pm and 4pm. Well, that sucks. Husband is leaving for school at 4pm. I hope the delivery guys get here closer to 2pm. If he's not here, I get to cover everything with a tarp and leave it in the yard.

Yeeehaw.

Brilliant

Teh four of us went here to see this. It was fantastic. Eldest was in heaven. The stallions were beautiful and did amazing things like the Courbette and the Capriole.

Courbette - The horse balances on the hind legs and then jumps, keeping the hind legs together and the forelegs off the ground.

Capriole - The stallion leaps into the air, drawing his forelegs under his chest at the height of elevation, and kicks out violently with his hind legs. The capriole can take many years of training.

It was breathtaking to watch these magnificent animals even attempt these stunts.

S-A-T-U-R - oh crap

Damn, it's only Friday. Well, thank goodness it's Friday, I suppose.

I am sitting amongst piles of papers - school, bills, Girl Scouts, newspapers, and, even though I am annoyed that I have all this stuff, I realized, I am lucky because I have all this stuff.

You all know what's going on in the news - levees breaking in New Orleans, a bus exploding, a 24 year old man shot dead for his Red Cross relief money - it's heartbreaking.

Howdy ho neighbors!

I need a wife.

No, not for THAT. Sheesh people. Really.

I need someone to run (aka CLEAN) my house while I am gone during the day doing things - like PTA, Girl Scouts, the gym, food shopping, all that fun stuff. Right now, the house looks awful. I've got stuff everywhere and not a lot of places to put the stuff. Husband is busting his butt and really working hard. Poor guy, works all day then comes home and works more at night.

I just can't wait until this addition is complete. I am craving order.

Husband and I stayed up last night, watching it on TBS. We were really digging the movie - until the end. What a HUGE turn there. Neither one of us saw that coming.

Of course, I bawled. Stooopid movie.

Good morning..err.. evening

You know, when I realized that both girls would be going to school this year, I anticipated leisurely days, lunching with friends, being able to get the house organized.... you know, being a little like June Cleaver.

Boy, has that notion flown out the window!

I'm so behind on visiting people so please forgive me for not commenting on your blogs.

Our visit to the track on Saturday was a LOT of fun. I've only been to the track once and I was way too young to gamble. Man, I had a gooood time gambling. Truth be told, I suck at horse betting but I had a lot of fun trying. I won on a few ponies - Joey P, Jersey Peach - how can one from NJ NOT bet on Jersey Peach? Well, she won the race and I won too. So did a shitload of other people who bet on her as well. The odds were awful - maybe 2-1. LOL. We stayed until the nineth race amd then we left, heading to my sis in law's place in Red Bank. We had dinner, walked to the Navesink River then drove home. Sunday was our BIG trip to Lowes. We spent quite a bit of money and the items will be delivered Monday.

Today, my friend Lauren, her lil 7 week old munchkin and I went shopping for some future PTA events. Don't even ask what I spent AND I'm not even done. ::sigh:: We were in Michaels for almost two hours. Of course, while I was there, I bumped into four different people - all from Girl Scouts. It was very weird indeed.

My FIL came down to watch the girls tonight as it was Eldest's Back to School night. I love her teacher this year and I think that Eldest will do very well with her. In other good school news, Eldest was accepted into the gifted and talented program! Woohoo!

Not much else here - just being busy with the house, the house, the house and the house. I've got to jump into the shower and head to bed. It's been a long day. G'nite!

Road Rage Gone Horribly Wrong

I didn't see this on any other NJ blogs yesterday and I thought the news story was very interesting.

LINDENWOLD — A Lindenwold man who authorities say was assaulted during a road rage incident died Tuesday.

James D. Munter, 53, suffered severe head injuries when he was punched twice by a 17-year-old borough resident, authorities said.

Sarubbi offered the following account of the incident: Munter, a computer programmer at the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia, was returning home from work around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

He was driving his 1999 Mercury Sable along the White Horse Pike in Laurel Springs when the teenager cut him off in his 2003 Dodge Durango.

I know what you are thinking - damn kid. I hate being cut off, especially by SUVs. But wait, there's more to this story.

Munter followed the juvenile and began screaming at him.

The teenager became concerned and used a cell phone to call his father. The father urged his son to drive home.

Munter followed the teenager to the boy's home about three miles away. The teen stopped his car across the street from his house. He got out and ran toward the home, crossing in front of Munter's vehicle.

Munter drove into the teenager, hitting him and causing him to land on the hood of the Mercury.

The teen, whom Zucker said is about 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, rolled off the hood of Munter's car, landed on his feet, walked to the driver's side of the car and punched Munter twice in the head.

Munter was not breathing when he arrived at the hospital, so he was placed on a ventilator, his wife Nadine said. Doctors tried twice to remove it, but Munter still was unable to breathe on his own. He died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The teen was ordered to remain in the Camden County Youth Detention Center, at least until a hearing scheduled for Thursday. Zucker said he hoped his client would be released to his parents then.

"It's a true tragedy because it certainly escalated into something that shouldn't have happened," Zucker said. "He was almost killed."

Zucker said three officials at the school where his client was a junior wrote letters supporting him, praising him as a good student and good citizen.

What a goddamn shame. If this doesn't change the way people act on the roads, nothing will.

PTA

I've got a PTA meeting this morning. I'm going to pick up my friend, who was the 7 week old baby (hi Lauren!), and we're going out for bagels and coffee before the meeting. Did I mention that she gets to go out babyfree today? Thank goodness for husbands! I used to LIVE for those times when the girls were infants.

I don't have many plans for later today. I've got to seriously buckle down and get more of my GS paperwork done. I've also got phone calls to make - we can finally have our first meeting next Friday! Woohoo! We had a problem with the meeting time and I had to scramble around and set a later time and a completely different place. Oy - it never ends!

I'm off - got to hustle to kidlets to school!

Catching up

A good day was had by all - I met up with a friend (hi Lauren!) and we had fun doing PTA stuff. I got to play, feed, and cuddle with her almost seven week old daughter. She is just so adorable! Although I didn't get too much sleep when the girls were infants, I do miss that stage. They don't stay that way for long.

I am waiting for the electrician to call me back in order to connect a new electric panel and other things. I have no clue what needs to be done - that's Husband's job. OH - totally forgot to mention that we bought a new gas range and a microwave that goes over it! Woohoo! It's a Maytag and it has a 5.22 cubic foot oven. Plenty of room to cook a BIG old turkey with room to spare!

I also want to promote a site - Adopt A Platoon. This organization will link you up with a soldier to provide the soldier with mail support. Go check the site out and see if you can find it in your heart to support a soldier.

Well, I've got to head to bed. I am pooped! G'night!

640am - Eldest - breakfast

I had so much stuff to do today, OMG, I can't even write it out. I had to go to the bank, drive to the local GS council - 20 minutes from my house, stop at a pool supply store to buy a new pool cover, treated myself to a Starbucks frappacino (soooooooo goood!) and got back to the house at 1130am, organized and packed stuff for Youngest's Daisy meeting, loaded the car and left the house again at 1215. Both girls had a dr's appt with the allergist at 120pm. I picked up Eldest at 1230, Youngestat 1245, got to the doc's, did the appt, drove home and hung around for 25 minutes, drove back to school for Youngest's first Daisy Girl Scout meeting, drove back home at 445pm, set the table, finished cooking dinner (thank you O Mighty Crockpot), waited for my FIL to show up to babysit the girls so Husband and I could go to Back to School night, he was late, Husband called, FIL forgot, I went to B2S night alone, met Youngest's teacher again, picked up some papers, dropped off some PTA stuff and made it back home by 830pm. I am so damn tired - that was my day.

So, what did YOU do today?

Posted by Cate at 11:09 PM | Comments (7)

Where is all my "free" time?

How do you people do it?

I've only got two kids and Husband (oh yeah, the cat too) and I am trying to stay organized. I don't know if it's working or not. The wiring in the addition is almost complete. We are waiting for a quote from another electrician and it hasn't arrived yet.

I have so much I want to mention - but yet, not enough time!

Arrrggghhhhh!

Don't Mess With Jersey Girls

Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their new wives duties.

The first man had married a woman from Tennessee and bragged that he had told his wife she was going to do all the dishes and house cleaning. He said it took a couple days but on the third day he came home to a clean house and the dishes were done.

The second man had married a woman from Florida. He bragged that he had given his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking.

On that the first day he didn't see any results, but the next day it was better. By the third day, his house was clean, the dishes were done and he had a huge dinner on the table.

The third man married a girl from New Jersey . He told her that her duties were to keep the house clean, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed and hot meals on the table for every meal.

He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day most of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye; enough to fix himself a bite to eat, load the dishwasher and telephone a landscaper.

Gotta love those Jersey girls.

It's gorgeous - 65 degrees. It's supposed to get up to 85 this afternoon. I love the cool mornings. I wish I had a deck where I could sit and enjoy them in peace and quiet.

Doing more

I have been wanting to do more for the victims of the Katrina. I searched this website and I placed a call to the place that I selected. Unfortunately, no one was available so I did leave a message but I will also try to call tomorrow. I am going to get the two GS troops involved as I think we can all come up with a sizable donation.
I have a box set up in my bedroom halfway filled with school supplies and books. I've got to hit the Dollar Store tomorrow for more items. Eldest and Youngestwant to help. I am going to have them look through their books and pick out some that are in good condition so we can pass those along as well.

I've got some more work to do tonight so I'm off. Catch you tomorrow!

Our first day of school

A good day was had by all - Youngestloved kindergarten, Eldest relaxed a bit about her first day and I, well, I had breakfast with two of my friends to celebrate the first day of school. We all cried just a little bit when our kindergartners drove off on the bus but we also knew that the three girls were SO excited about school.

Well, the girls have a dentist appointment in an hour. I've got to run for now.

Out on the town

The girls and I will be heading out to our town's "Good Old Days" celebration. I've got to man the Girl Scout booth for about 1 1/2 hours and then the day belongs to us. Eldest is going to a sleepover tonight (woohoo!) and won't be back until tomorrow afternoon.

I hope everyone has a safe (and fun!) holiday weekend!

To Be a Dentist

I'm off for my teeth cleaning. Luckily, this isn't my
dentist!

::update at 340pm:: No cavities and the dentist says I have great teeth. Unfortunately, my gums took a terrible beating from the heavy handed hygenist. She took flossing seriously. Ouch.

Teary-eyed

I'm watching the convoy of trucks, buses, suvs and other vehicles drive over the bridge in New Orleans. It was incredible to see that and knowing that finally these poor people are going to get some help.

from Fox News:

The governor, Gov. Kathleen Blanco called the looters "hoodlums" and issued a warning to lawbreakers: Hundreds of National Guard troops hardened on the battlefield in Iraq have landed in New Orleans.

"They have M-16s and they're locked and loaded," she said. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will."

It's time to take back the city and get back to helping people.

Thank Goodness it's Friday

Still waiting for some work to be completed on the addition. Husband is unhappy with a few things and we're going to make them fix it before they get some more money. So far, they've been pretty accommodating.
So far.

I've got no plans this weekend. Well, just one thing for a couple hours on Saturday but that's it. I do have an appointment to get my teeth cleaned today - Woohoo. I can par-tay! Tonight, I'm going out with a group of friends to work on our photo albums. You know, just to sit and chat while loading up the albums. I've got SO many photographs all over my house. I desperately need to get them in albums. It should be fun!

Eldest had her horseback riding lessons yesterday. Good Lord - the child is in heaven.. and a little bit of pain from the saddle. Ouchies. I also need to buy her a pair of boots - something with a heel so her foot doesn't slip out of the stirrups. With that and a helmet, it's going to get expensive quickly. My mom is helping by paying for the lessons - thanks Mom! Eldest is just so excited.

Well, I've got to run - many things to do and not enough time. Have a safe and fantastic weekend. Please donate - blood, money, food, whatever you can. American needs your help.
