It's finally quiet
Did you ever have a night when you just let the kids pick out their own dinner? Yeah.. I did too.. P was working late and the girls didn't want chicken. So, at their request, I made mini pizzas for each of them - no cheese for O. After that, they were still hungry so each girl got a leftover piece of meatloaf with dipping "sauce" (ketchup). Dessert - soy chips. Again, their choice. Thank goodness they ate healthy breakfasts and lunches!
P got home around 830pm, just in time to chat with the girls before they had to brush their teeth and head into bed. They got tossed in around 915pm. These late bedtimes have got to stop. It makes my mornings miserable.
P and I are hosting Easter dinner. We are now up to 9 or 10 people. Oy - where am I gonna seat all these people??? I am going to have to rearrange my living room and maybe put some seating out there. Actually, I think (and hope and pray!) it will go smoothly. So far, the menu will be ham, turkey, mashed potatoes or rice, green beans, broccoli, tossed salad, baking powder biscuits (I have an awesome recipe for those) and assorted desserts - apple and pumpkin pie (the girls have been nagging me for pumpkin pie), chocolate chip cookies and maybe some fresh fruit. I guess I will be busy that entire weekend!
Anyone have plans for Easter?

I spent almost $50 on patches and pins for the troop and that was including a $20 council credit. I love finding cute patches for the girls!

Statue Of Liberty
I am so excited about this! P and I will be bringing the girls to see her.
<a href="http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040330/ap_on_re_us/statue_of_liberty_3">NEW YORK - The Statue of Liberty, closed immediately after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, will reopen to the public this summer, officials said Tuesday</a>.
Pledges of $7 million in donations, including a $100,000 gift from Mayor Michael Bloomberg, will finance upgrades that were necessary at the national monument before it could be reopened.
<a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/thumb.ny11403301401.statue_of_liberty_ny1141.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/thumb.ny11403301401.statue_of_liberty_ny1141.php','popup','width=264,height=410,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">Currently, tourists can visit Liberty Island but are not allowed inside the 151-foot statue in New York Harbor.</a>
"Safety of our citizens and preservation of the statue are our main goals," said Secretary of the Interior Gail Norton, acknowledging that the 118-year-old statue was "an attractive terrorist target."
The billionaire mayor, who joined Norton at a news conference on the island, said he was "proud to have played such a small role" in getting the statue available to the public once again.
According to Norton, an examination of the national monument revealed potential for fire problems and a lack of exits. Screening procedures, much like those at airports, and a reservation system to reduce long lines will be implemented once the monument reopens in late July, Norton said.
She said after the upgrades are completed, the public will be allowed to climb the 354 steps to the statue's crown, or observation deck.
The island was closed for 100 days after Sept. 11, 2001. Airport-type metal detectors were installed to screen visitors boarding the ferry from lower Manhattan before the island was reopened in December 2001. But the statue itself has remained closed.
Since the terrorist attacks, officials have said the number of visitors to Liberty Island has dropped by 40 percent. Still, more than 4 million people have visited since then. The statue had undergone a major restoration for its 100th birthday in 1986.
The upgrade project is being overseen by the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation.

Back from the rock
No silly - not <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/rock.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/rock.php','popup','width=450,height=278,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">this rock</a>...
I am feeling better now that I have had several doses of <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/rob.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/rob.php','popup','width=155,height=264,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">Robitussin</a> and Motrin. I still have some icky sinus things going on but at least I don't feel like I am going to puke anymore.
On his way home from work last night, P stopped at McD's for the kids. All I wanted to do was lay down and sleep. Of course, I didn't really sleep - my mind was racing.. I was having a hard time winding down. I managed to doze on and off until about 7-ish. At that point, the phone rang and I said **** it and got up. The girls had a great night. M had finished her homework and O was already in her pjs. P pulled out one of the train sets and set it up on the kitchen table. The girls hauled out the legos and built little structures to put around the train tracks. It was pretty cute. If I had the energy, I would have taken pictures. I was just vegging on the couch. The girls finally got to bed by 915pm and I put on my Sex and the City season 1 dvd. I had watched a few episodes earlier while O was at school. P and I watched 5 episodes before I finally shut it off. I was getting burned out on Carrie and her freakiness. <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/big.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/big.php','popup','width=295,height=524,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">Mr. Big</a> - well - <a href="http://www.geocities.com/nothworthy/index1.htm"target=_blank>who can ever get enough of him</a>? Can you say hubba hubba?
Anyway, I managed to finally fall asleep around 130am. I tossed and turned for most of the night. I think I smacked poor P in the face with my constant pillow flipping and flopping. I <i>hate</i> hot pillows - ewwwwwww! I need one of those <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/chillow.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/chillow.php','popup','width=300,height=300,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">Chillow things</a>. M made it to school on time then O and I ran a few errands - bank, gas, bread and milk - and made it back home.
Tonight, M has a 4-H meeting. We are checking it out for the first time. I thought 4-H was all about farm animals, etc but it also has a lot to do with the environment, training pets, fixing computers, growing plants... etc.. I think she would really do well with this. Plus, a couple of her friends are also involved in it as well.
Ok - enough rambling... time to do a few things around the house. .. catch ya'll later!

Whatta weekend!
We had a great weekend...
The dance on Friday night was lame but M had a fun time.
Saturday - P took the girls out early in the morning to shoot off rockets. The girls had SO much fun - they can't wait to do it again. We putzed around the house and eventually made it over to Michaels for birthday presents for three of M's friends and model rocket stuff for P. Stopped at Pathmark and picked up some basics. We didn't do too much that night. The girls helped me with a new zoo I set up on Zoo Tycoon - this game is like crack to me.
Today, the girls and I went to church. I taught Sunday school. M went to one friend's house after church. Then, that friend's mom drove M and <i>her</i> daughter to a bowling birthday party. I had a meeting at church at 1230pm (remind me to get into that tomorrow) and O stayed home with P.
O and I played Zoo Tycoon again today and then tonight before they got their night time stories. P and I watched the Sopranos and Deadwood. Two awesome shows! Well- gotta hit the hay. I am beat and not feeling too well - damn scratchy throat!
So - hi and bye!

Scout Mart - A Success!
The girls <i>loved</i> <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/004926.php#004926">Scout Mart.</a> I think this was probably the best meeting we have ever had. I have just enough time to get dinner ready, eat and then bring M to the second grade dance at 7pm. I will be staying as her partner and P will be home with Miss O.
I need a drink. Who's buying?

Great Soprano Quotes
All borrowed from IMDB
[Tony urges Dr. Melfi to get out of town for a while]
Dr. Jennifer Melfi: I have patients who are suicidal!
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Well they're not gonna feel any better about their life if you get clipped.
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: The world really went downhill, since 9/11. You know, Quasimodo predicted all of this.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Who did what?
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: You know, the middle east. The end of the world.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Nostradamus. Quasimodo's the hunchback of Notre Dame.
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: Oh, right. Notredamus.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Nostradamus and Notre Dame, that's two things different completely.
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: It's interesting that they'd be so similar, though. You know, I always thought "Ok, you got the hunchback of Notre Dame. But you also got your quarterback and your headback of Notre Dame".
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Notre Dame's a fucking cathedral!
Bobby "Bacala" Baccalieri: Obviously, I know. I'm just saying. It's interesting, the coincidences. What, you're gonna tell me you never pondered that?
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: No!
[After Matthew Bevilaqua tries to clean up cheese from Silvo Dante, and Silvio goes ballistic]
Matthew Bevilaqua: I'm just trying to clean the cheese from your feet.
Silvio Dante: Why now? Huh? Leave the fucking cheese alone. I stick mother fuckin' provolone in my socks every night so they smell like your sister's crotch in the morning. Now get out of here!
[Tony disapproves of Meadow's new boyfriend because he is black]
Carmela Soprano: If you want her to be with him, just keep playing the race card. You're gonna drive her right into his arms.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Not if I cut off those arms.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Maybe I should tap into my roots, too. My grandmother was half Indian.
Christopher Moltisanti: Get the fuck out of here.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: No, it's true. She was in the Fakawee tribe.
Christopher Moltisanti: Oh, yeah?
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Yeah. When they used to get lost in the woods, they stopped and said "Where the Fakawee?"
[Chris and Husbandie just botched a hit on a Russian gangster, and are lost in the woods. They call Tony, and get a bad reception]
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Listen to me, this guy was a Russian green beret. He was in the ministry of the interior or something. He single-handedly killed 16 Chechen rebels. Be fucking careful.
Husbandie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: All right.
[hangs up]
Christopher Moltisanti: What did he say?
Husbandie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: He said the guy killed 16 Czechoslovakians, and he was an interior decorator.
Christopher Moltisanti: Interior decorator? His appartment looked like shit.
Teittleman: Mr. Soprano, he hit my daughter. You have a daughter, right?
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Yeah, I do.
Teittleman: What would you do if someone hit your daughter.
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: I'd go talk to him...
Silvio Dante: With a ball peen hammer.
Husbandie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: Hey, Sil. You remember your first blowjob?
Silvio Dante: Oh, yeah.
Husbandie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: How long did it take for the guy to come?
Federal interrogator: You prefer Corrado or Junior?
Corrado Erico 'Uncle Junior' Soprano: I prefer mr. Soprano.
Federal interrogator: Your tenure as boss was a short one. Actually, it was unusual in several ways. Let me put this to you as simply as I can. You can avoid sentencing on these charges if you will testify that in fact, you were not the boss of North Jersey, that in fact, your nephew Anthony Soprano was and is. That he de facto controlled your capos with the backing of two of the new york families communicating through their emissary, John Sacrimoni. We want Johnny Sack. But more than him, we want Mangano and Teresi.
Corrado Erico 'Uncle Junior' Soprano: I want to fuck Angie Dickinson, let's see who gets lucky first.
Dr. Jennifer Melfi: Have you ever had a prostate exam?
Anthony 'Tony' Soprano Sr.: Are you kidding? I don't let anyone wag their finger in my FACE

Good MORNING
Hello people!
I mailed out a big old check to our local Girl Scout council for 29 Six Flags tickets. I am looking forward to this event. I know the girls will have a lot of fun. 10 of my 14 girls are going as well as at least 1 parent per girl. Several girls have their whole family coming! I think we might do an overnight trip to the local campground too - nothing too crazy - it would be from Friday 6pm to Saturday 2pm. Doesn't sound too difficult to me... I hope I can <strike>con</strike> recruit a couple adult volunteers to camp out with us too!
I have been feeling kinda blah... it's a dreary day today. Cold. Grey. Rainy. Yuck. I have a headache too - I think my head is like some sort of barometer. I swear, whenever the weather gets sucky, I get a headace. Weird.
Am I just rambling on and on? Hell yeah...
O and I have been working on her letters. She likes to trace over the dotted out letters so I have been "dotting" out her name, address, phone number. She knows them anyway. I drilled her phone number into her head by the time she was 2 1/2 years old. I hope she can pick up reading by the end of the summer. She still has another year of preschool since she doesn't turn 5 until December 30th. I think she is bored in preschool. It's more for a social outlet than actual learning. She does learn stuff but she already knows most of what is reviewed in class. I wish I could homeschool her. Heck, I might be able to depending on her medical situation. We are not testing for her food allergies until next year. I hope to God that she outgrows the dairy and egg allergy. The peanut/nuts allergy sucks but I would be happy to have just that. Geez - that sounds so sad and pathetic. LOL.
Anyway - I suppose I should get something done around her.... nahhhhhhhh. I am gonna read some blogs!

Not much to say... I am pooped. I don't exactly know <i>why</i> but it's been a long day. I think I pulled a muscle in my upper back, near my right shoulder blade. I am going to lay down, watch some tv and try to fall asleep.
G'night ya'll.

Gotta Brag
M just brought home her report card today. She is AP (Advanced Proficient) in reading, writing and mathematics! Her personal and social developement levels are much more advanced than last marking period. Her teacher also wrote: <i>
M is becoming a thorough, skilled and creative worker. She is
more organized and on task. She asks questions when she needs help
and participates in discussion.</i>
The principal also wrote "Nice work!" I am so proud of her!

Jeez - 1pm already??? :::runs around frantically::: I got stuff to do!

Why?
Ok - here's the story. Our troop is going to a Six Flags event next month. It's for Girls Scouts and their families only for $36.00 per person. The ticket price <i>includes</i> lunch and a free admission ticket to come back another time. Normal ticket prices are $45.99 so you can see that this event and the price is a really good deal. Even better - our troop will pay for each one of our girls who attend. BUT, there is a catch. I need the money UP FRONT from the parents because I have to purchase these tickets in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door so I need to purchase and pay for these tickets as soon as possible.
I have had to track down no less than six families to find out if they are even going or not. ::sigh::
I hate nagging people for money but I refuse to pay for events like this with troop money. The girls work so hard selling nuts and cookies this past year. I am not going to let it get wasted.

MIAMI - A 5-year-old boy took a bag of marijuana to school and was sprinkling it over a friend's lasagna like oregano when a monitor intervened, police said.
The lasagna was confiscated before the other boy had a chance to eat it Monday in the cafeteria at Gratigny Elementary School.
Police said it was unclear whether the kindergartner even knew what he was carrying, although he tried to hide the bag when the monitor approached.
The boy "may have said it was oregano," said Mayco Villafana, spokesman for Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Police and child welfare authorities were investigating the boy's family. "The focus is on the child's environment and what issues could have led to a child having a bag of marijuana in school," Villafana said. Police also were looking into whether an older friend may have asked the boy to hold the bag.
Also on Monday, authorities in Indianapolis said a 4-year-old boy took crack cocaine that police said was worth up to $10,000 to his preschool class and showed it to classmates, saying it was flour.
Teachers realized it was cocaine and called authorities.
"This could have killed these kids," said police Sgt. Roger Tuchek.
Indianapolis police said Tuesday they were still seeking the boy's parents, Kenneth Lee Green, 24, and Andrea D. Jackson, 23. Jackson was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court, court records showed. Green had been convicted of carrying an unlicensed firearm, resisting law enforcement and marijuana possession.

I just turned on my radio/cd unit and BLASTED on, scaring the ever loving <i>****</i> out of me. O almost fell off her kitchen chair. The stereo was turned up to the loudest it could have been. Oy. I think I just aged ten years...
Ok - I think my heartbeat is back down to normal now... I think...

So far so good
I think O is feeling better although I notice she complains about things when she is "bored". We are going to work on some craft projects.. see you later!

Why?
O has been lucky enough to catch some kind of mutant cold that only develops between the hours of midnight and 3am. She has been up and down all night/morning. I am going to try to get an appointment for her if she doesn't seem to feel better in the next few hours. Luckily, she doesn't have school today or tomorrow.
Off to take M to school.. catch ya later!

Brrrr! It's 32 degrees here!!!
Just a quick note to say good morning before the girls and I head out the door. I have to go to the dollar store and possibly Wally-Mart to pick up little things for the next Girl Scout badge - Penny Power. I am going to set up a little store and have the girls go shopping with play money. This should be fun!

Wow
Soprano spoiler below..
Man - very powerful tonight.
Junior's Alzheimers and mini strokes. Scary. What a nightmare for families to deal with... I thought he might jump off the bridge when he was walking across. When Tony asked Junior if he still loved Tony, I started to tear up at Junior's reaction/
Janice is a slob - she pisses me off every episode. And poor Bobby. He had better get rid of Janice ASAP.
Chris-TA-fur is a moron. What the hell is he thinking trying to offer Johnny Sack advice? Sheeesh. And someone better hand Johnny a 2x4 to kill the bug that's up his ass. What a ****er.
Feech and Pie - poor Sal Vietro getting the crap beat outta him by Feech. Man, does Feech have a grudge or what? How about when Pie smacked that dude up the head with a shovel? Jesus, that poor bastard.
Ok - discuss!

Better late than never!
Yeah yeah... so I haven't posted since Friday... I know..
Things went well yesterday. The four of us went to the mall to buy Easter dresses for the girls and some summer clothes for Eldest. We walked and walked.. we saw the Easter Bunny and the girls got their picture taken with him. We finally found coordinating (not identical) dresses in the Gap. Luckily, Mom had insisted on paying for them. She was supposed to come with us but she wasn't feeling too hot the day after the procedure. Anyway, the dresses are very cute and not the usual poofy fluffy Easter dresses. I am not a big fan of poofy but I know there are some really pretty ones for sale. Mom loved these suits but I can't buy dresses for the girls without the girls trying them on first.
We spent about five hours driving, shopping and driving home. By the time we got home, I was beat! I just heated up leftovers and we had a nice quiet night. Husband and I played a little Weboggle, watched some television and chatted. We watched Rush Hour with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan. Very funny! Jackie Chan is incredible and Chris Tucker was so damn funny!
My Dad and StepMom stopped for a visit today. They spent the weekend in AC and caught the Bette Midler concert last night. They both really enjoyed the show. Dad showed Eldest how to use the abacus and now Husband and Eldest are doing math problems on it. I bet she is the only kid in her class that knows how to use an abacus! Youngestis playing with crayons and markers and I am trying to figure out what to make for dinner. I have chicken breasts and Spanish rice. I will whip up some veggies and a small salad. I found a recipe that calls for using potato flakes as the breading for the chicken. Of course, you will have to add other seasinings as well but I am going to test it out for dinner.
Ok - gotta run. Don't forget to watch The Sopranos tonight!

At Mom's place
The surgery went well - I just got back to her place about 45 minutes ago. Will update more later...
:::smooches:::
<i>Update</i>
Ok - I ate dinner so I am feeling a little better now. Details are in the extended entry
I got to the hospital by 740am. I went upstairs to Ambulatory Care and Mom was already there. The nurse called her in around 815am. She was getting prepped for surgery, etc.. Dan and I got in to see her by 830am. She was already hooked up with an IV line and in a narrow transport bed. She was there until 11am. They wheeled her off to the OR and we got to hang out in the waiting room. Her procedure was supposed to be at 1030am. She didn't even go in until noon. We saw the suregon around 130pm and he gave us the update about Mom. The surgeon removed the cyst - about the size of a pea - and he believes that it is benign. Of course, he sent it to the lab and the test results will be in hopefully by Tuesday. She has to make a follow up appointment with the surgeon for 3/30. <a href="http://www.gigglechick.com/erin/blog/index.php">Erin</a> - you know the surgeon - remember Carney DeSarno? Class of 1985? Well - he's a DOCTAH now. Small world.
She wasn't able to get out of the recovery area and back up to Ambulatory Care until 330pm as there were no available beds until that time. David was the nurse that was assigned to her. He was an incredibly good looking black man with a great set of shoulders and arms. ::rowr:: He was nice enough to get Mom a sandwich and ginger ale. She was so hungry! While she was eating, another nurse brought Mom her clothes. After she finished eating her sandwich, Mom got dressed. David went over some medical information with and we were able to leave shortly after that. On the way home, I called my brother and let hin know what was going on with Mom. I got to Mom's house by 4pm and helped out with some stuff around here. I will be heading home in about an hour. I am beat.
It's been a looooong day.

Plans for tomorrow
Mom's procedure will be at 8am tomorrow. I will be leaving my house between 630am-7am. It shouldn't take too long but I am not sure as to what she might need me to do for her. Most likely to help her out at home. Dan, her boyfriend, isn't the most nurturing type.. if you know what I mean.

Hi there!
I fell asleep at 1130pm last night. Again.
The girls didn't get into bed until 930pm. By the time M had gotten showered, dressed and had a snack.. she didn't have time to read her book. She did fall asleep very quickly - maybe she should go to dances a lot more often!
While M and I were out last night, P fixed my stove and dishwasher. Hooray! The dishwasher is back again. I have missed it so much!
I have to kick these girls in the butt and get them moving again.. catch ya later!

Unplanned visit
This morning, I dropped off M's cookie money to our troop cookie mom. I had O with me. She is friends with the cookie mom's daughter. The cookie mom is <i>my</i> friend. We ended up staying for about 3 hours this morning! Luckily, Liz (the mom) is super nice and didn't mind (or seem to mind) us hanging out for a while.
I have a Girl Scout dance tonight. This should be fun.. I hope!

A wish for a happy St.Patrick's Day
is coming from me to you to say
May Irish blessings lead your way
to keep you safe and strong
May no turmoil ever defeat you
and your life be filled with song.
May you always have a friend
who never becomes your foe
and love...not wind....

I wish for you

All these blessings that I wish
be you not or be you Irish

Evening
Well - P fell asleep on the bed at 730pm. I got the girls ready for bed, had them brush their teeth, washed the dishes, read stories and got them into bed by 915pm. I hate washing dishes. We are still waiting on the parts for the dishwasher. Hopefully, I will be getting them very very soon. I was annoyed just a teeny bit about having to wash the dishes.. hell, I cooked dinner! LOL! But, I know he was so tired, the poor guy. The girls were pretty easy tonight. They fell asleep rather quickly too - always a bonus!
So, the house is all quiet and now I can play <a href="http://plutor.org/boggle/"><b>Weboggle</b></a> in peace. So - who's playing too?

Good morning
Ugh - gross yucky day today. It's starting to snow. My county is not going to get too much, perhaps an inch or two, but people who live further north will get a few more inches snow. Better you than me!
I was going to write last night but ended up falling asleep on the couch. I staggered into bed around midnight and went right back to sleep!
Today might be a good Play Doh day. Anyone want to come over and play?

Where did my day go?
I was pretty busy today. After I picked up O from school, we came back home and ate lunch. P took a half day - he wasn't feeling well. At 2pm, I picked up M from school to go to the allergist. They both got a clean bill of health, renewed medications and new Epi-Pens for O.
It was really nice today - a little windy but very nice. While driving home, I decided to bring the girls to the playground. They had a blast. We bumped into one of our other troop leaders and her two daughters. All four girls played hard and had a great time. Of course, getting them to leave was a little difficult, as always.
When we got home, we found P asleep on the couch. In fact, he is still sleeping as I type. The girls just plopped down on the floor and I flipped on Kim Possible while I attempt to make dinner. Salisbury steaks with fresh green beans and rice pilaf.
Yum!

Yeah baby!
Another awesome episode!
(spoiler below)
The music was awesome.. "Undercover of the Night" is a great song. Perfect 80's song to go along with the Miami Vice look. Buscemi was <i>great</i> tonight. The scene in the Bing when he gave out massages to the guys.. freakin' hysterical. I loved when he called P Grandpa Munster!
So - what did you think??

Sunday Morning
The girls and I are going to church. P is still conked out. I don't even <b>know</b> what time he came to bed. I was watching tv in our bedroom and felt my eyes rolling up in my head. At that point, I decided to actually turn the television <i>off</i> and go to sleep! DUH!
One of M's friends comes to the same church so she will be coming home with us for an afternoon playdate. EJ is a sweet girl. I don't have to worry about fights, etc when she and M play together.
Damn - look at the time.. gotta run!

Howdy
The bookfair last night was fun. The girls got some books and I bumped into a friend who was there with <i>her</i>daughter. After the fair, we stopped at Kmart and wandered around. I picked up some bread, water, toilet paper.. important stuff. The kids got to bed by 930-ish.
P and I watched the first of three SATC Season 2 dvds. Some of those episodes were so damn funny. I never even watched that show until much later. I have to say - Big is just gorgeous. ::rowr::
This morning, M had her Young Authors Conference from 9am-1pm. I only knew of one other kid, a boy who is one of M's buddies, who was going. There must have been two hundred kids or more children there. All various ages. M seemed to have a great time. I brought her and her friend back to our house. They ate lunch then played a board game. P and O, who spent the day together, came back from a trip to Home Depot shortly afterwards. Then, another one of M's friends, a boy who lives a few houses away, came down to see if M wanted to play. The three of them and O are now racing around the backyard having a grand old time.
I am off to work on laundry and other household chores. Joy!

TGIF
Man - Friday could not come fast enough. I have a <strike>ton</strike> MOUNTAIN of clean laundry. Seriously, it must be five loads worth. ::sigh:: At least it's clean..
I need to go food shopping at some point in the next couple days. I am almost out of bread and milk and very low and my basics. Ugh - fun. Tonight, M's school has a book fair. I had originally wanted to go on Wednesday but things came up and we didn't make it. Then, I wanted to go last night and the kids were moving slower than molassas. So, we didn't go last night. I get to spend Friday night at a book fair with two overly excited girls. Yay?
Well - time to finish getting the kiddies ready for school. I am going to treat myself to a fresh bagel after I <strike>boot them out of the car</strike> bring the girls to school. Then, I get to wash dishes.

Cool!
<a href="http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040311/ap_en_tv/pier_1_imports_3">FORT WORTH, Texas - Kirstie Alley (news) is out as spokeswoman for Pier 1 Imports. A queer eye is in. </a>
The home furnishing chain has launched a new marketing campaign featuring
<a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/thom.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/thom.php','popup','width=329,height=410,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false"><b>Thom Filicia</b></a>, the design guru of the hit makeover show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."
With the success of shows like "Trading Spaces" and "Queer Eye," it was time for Pier 1 to capitalize on the rising home decorating trend, said Phil Schneider, executive vice president for Pier 1 marketing.
National television ads featuring Filicia were to begin airing Thursday.
"We wanted somebody that was renowned as a decorator-expert and Thom certainly has been well-connected in his career," said Marvin J. Girouard, chairman and CEO of the Fort Worth-based chain. "He's done some things that we think will really play well into the type of merchandizing and advertising that we're going to."
The Bravo channel's "Queer Eye" features five gay men helping straight men transform their style from slovenly to chic in categories including fashion, grooming, interior design, food and wine and culture. Filicia is the "design doctor."
The Pier 1 Imports ads will show Filicia helping customers find decorative furnishings that reflect their personal style. He replaces actress Alley, who for three years was the company's celebrity spokeswoman.
"Is there risk involved in big change? Absolutely," said Girouard, who has worked for the company since 1975. "But there's much more risk involved in not changing things."
Filicia was named one of America's top designers by House Beautiful and owns the New York design company Thom Filicia Inc. He said he uses Pier 1 items in his designs, so he had no problem signing up as a pitchman for a year.
"There's so much personality in their pieces," Filicia said. "This is a store where you can really express yourself."
Filicia's sexuality will likely be a non-issue with most Pier 1 customers, one analyst said.
"The 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' has been pretty successful, so that takes the pressure off Pier 1," said Thomas Cline, associate professor of marketing at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa.
Pier 1 started in 1962 as a single store in California. The company moved to Fort Worth in 1966 and now boasts more than $1.7 billion in sales and more than 1,200 stores in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
"Thom Filicia is a bold move, but one that makes sense given his credibility as a designer and the popularity of the show he is on now," said Laura Richardson, an analyst in equity research at Adams, Harkness & Hill.

The Giving Tree
I read <i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060256656/ref=sib_rdr_dp/103-7112127-2389426?%5Fencoding=UTF8&no=283155&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&st=books">The Giving Tree</a></i> by Shel Silverstein to O and M the other day and I found myself crying while reading. I literally could not get through each page without choking up. I don't know if the kids knew that I was crying - I was hoping they didn't because I did not know how I could explain that such a simple and beautifully written story could make me cry. I could have discussed with them the many sacrifices that the tree made or the apparent selfishness of the boy.. but I couldn't bring myself to bring it up. I wanted to finish the book as fast as I possibly could. Why? It's a beautiful story. I think it reminded me of my selfishness from when I was growing up, taking everything for granted, assuming I could take take take and not have to give give give.
My girls had completely changed my life. Now, I give give give and they take, as they should. They are a part of me and I will always give to them, until I have no more left to give.

Memories
I was reading a post that <a href="http://www.adelle.net/archives/001940.php#001940">Adelle</a> wrote about the cartoon Jem. Apparently, there will be a Jem dvd coming out at the end of the month. Now, Jem wasn't my cup of tea. I preferred the older stuff like <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/ccmm1.php" onclick="window.open'http://www.katespot.com/archives/ccmm1.php','popup','width=564,height=342,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">these guys</a> with bad guys like <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/ccmm.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/ccmm.php','popup','width=585,height=348,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">this</a>. Who can forget classic cartoons like <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/tj.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/tj.php','popup','width=568,height=388,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">Tom and Jerry</a>, <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/ud.php" onclick="window.open('http://www.katespot.com/archives/ud.php','popup','width=512,height=384,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false">Underdog</a> and many others... Double Whammy
I don't know if everyone who read me knows abotu my parents. They are divorced - have been since I was about 14 years old. Dad married a really wonderful woman and I think he is pretty damn lucky to have her. Mom never remarried but she is in a committed relationship with D - since like forever.
Mom was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2001. She has had multiple courses of chemoptherapy and it was looking very good for a while.
She just discovered a lump on her cheek by her ear last night. The doctor wants a biopsy done by her surgeon ASAP.
Dad was diagnosed with Colon Cancer almost one year ago. He had surgery to remove a very large tumor and had undergone chemotherapy as well. He had finished his chemo and was doing so well. There was a spot on his liver that was diagnosed in the summer that had gotten larger and there was also the possiblilty that another spot was there as well. I heard from M (stepmom) today - Dad has cancer in his liver. He has to start a new chemo for several months then most likely surgery.
I can't believe this - it's not goddamn fair.

Another celeb passes on
<a href="http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040309/people_nm/people_pastorelli_dc_2">LOS ANGELES, California -- Robert Pastorelli, the boxer-turned-actor best known to television audiences as the house painter Eldin on long-running CBS comedy "Murphy Brown," has died, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said Tuesday</a>.
Pastorelli, 49, was found dead in the bathroom of his Hollywood Hills home Monday afternoon, a coroner's spokesman said. Drug paraphernalia was found on the scene, he added, and an autopsy was to be conducted Tuesday.
The New Jersey-born Pastorelli got into stage acting in the 1970s in productions like "Rebel Without A Cause" but found his greatest fame on "Murphy Brown," painting the house of the title character played by Candice Bergen but never quite finishing his ambitious artistic projects on her walls.
He briefly had his own series, "Double Rush," about the manager of a bicycle messenger service. Most recently, he was cast in the film "Be Cool," a sequel to "Get Shorty."
Syndicated TV entertainment show Access Hollywood, which first reported the actor's death, said his girlfriend died in the same home in early 1999. The two had a daughter.

The new Elvis?
<a href="http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=529&ncid=529&e=3&u=/ap/20040308/ap_en_mu/people_william_hung_1">NEW YORK - Who needs "American Idol"? William Hung doesn't ? he already has a recording contract. </a>
The singer, who became a fan favorite ? but not a judges' favorite ? during open auditions for the Fox series with his spirited version of Ricky Martin (news)'s "She Bangs," has signed a deal with Fuse Music Network and Koch Records.
His debut album, tentatively titled "The True Idol," is scheduled for release April 6, it was announced Monday. It will contain "She Bangs," along with another Martin hit, "Shake Your Bon Bon," and a cover of Elton John (news)'s "Rocket Man," which Hung sang recently on "The Ellen DeGeneres (news) Show."
And for those of you hankering for more Hung, the disc will include a 40-minute DVD with behind-the-scenes footage from his studio recording sessions and fan questions and answers.
"He may not be the next American Idol, but he is definitely a star and inspiration to everyone who sings in the shower," said Marc Juris, president of Fuse, which will exclusively air his "She Bangs" video.
Koch Records general manager Alan Grunblatt was even more effusive: "He is the new Elvis!"
Hung, a 21-year-old Hong Kong native and civil engineering student at the University of California, Berkeley, has inspired fan clubs and Web sites that sing his praises.
Meanwhile, back at "American Idol," eight of the 12 finalists have been chosen. The remaining four will be announced this week when "wild card" singers ? those who didn't get enough votes the first time ? come back for a second chance.

Members of parliament in the world?s most populous Muslim country have proposed an anti-pornography bill that includes a ban on kissing on the mouth in public.
?I think there must be some restrictions on such acts because it is against our traditions of decency,? said Aisyah Hamid Baidlowi, head of a parliamentary committee drafting the bill.
Heavy kissing could carry a maximum penalty of five years in jail or a 250 million rupiah ($29,000) fine. Anyone caught flashing would face similar penalties.
The bill also proposes bans on public nudity, erotic dances and sex parties, with jail terms ranging from three to 10 years. Watching such a display could lead to two years behind bars.
Indonesians have long followed a moderate version of Islam, although an emphasis on Muslim practices and identification with Islamic traditions have grown stronger in recent years.
Public displays of affection are frowned upon by many, though.

Late Night
I had a great time at Bonkos tonight. I didn't win any prizes (boohoo!) but still had a lot of fun. P had a good night with the girls while I was out.
M has now decided that she wants an American Girl doll. Yikes - those damn things are expensive! Even on eBay, very expensive. Why are they so much money? It's just a doll!
O has a playdate scheduled for tomorrow. Her little friend M is coming over. I love listening to them chatter - it's so darn cute! I am sure they will be playing dress-up, Barbies, Polly Pockets.. all that fun stuff..
Well - off to surf and check emails.. Goodnight!

Bummer
<a href="http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040308/ap_en_mo/tv_sex_and_the_city_2">ASPEN, Colo. - Don't expect a "Sex and the City" movie, said the TV series' executive producer, Michael Patrick King</a>.
"Nothing we did in the series was altered to save something for the movie," King said at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival.
"This is exactly the way we wanted to end the series," he said Friday. "We're proud of what we did."
The HBO series, which aired its last new episode Feb. 22, will live on in syndication. That pleases star Sarah Jessica Parker (news), even if the episodes are toned down for a broader audience.
"I am not sad about a larger audience," said Parker, who played columnist Carrie Bradshaw. "Part of me is happy that people who could not afford HBO" will now have the opportunity to meet the four women whose love lives were chronicled on the show.
"We joke there will be no Samantha" after the censors have their way, writer Cindy Chupak said of the free-spirited character played by Kim Cattrall.
Parker, King, Chupak and the show's five other writers appeared at the comedy festival, which ended Sunday.
The writers, all women, described how their real-life experiences made their way into the scripts. In the sanctity of the writers' room, they discussed their dates and relationships.
"Very often that bleeds into story building," said writer Elisa Zuritsky.
Some of the writers said they share the characters' love of expensive shoes. Amy B. Harris acknowledged she has 50 to 75 pairs; Jenny Bicks' collection consists of about 30 pairs.
And Parker's shoe wardrobe? "I can't talk about it," she said with a laugh.

Snow?
What the hell? Snow??
It's not too bad here - the roads are slushy. I managed to get some errands done today after I dropped the girls off at school. I picked up a 16oz coffee and a bagel and I was on my way. I got my oil changed at Jiffy-Doctor-Lube place. It literally took five minutes. <i>Five</i> minutes. Hey - works for me, thankyouverymuch.
I checked out a few thrift shops. Nothing but junk. Bleech. I stopped at another awesome looking antiques shop but they weren't open until 10am. I didn't feel like waiting around. Maybe next time. I had to fill out two referral forms for the girls. They will be seeing the allergist on Monday and their referrals ran out. God - filling out those forms are such a pain in the ass. It doesn't take long but just having to go to the pediatricin's office and <i>do</i> it - that's the pain!
Sooooo - what about them Sopranos, eh?? Great episode! I can't wait to see Steve Bescemi next week. He is such a freak!
Does anyone watch Curb Your Enthusiam? I watched it last night and thought I was going to wet myself from laughing. God - I <b>love</b> these story lines. The episode when Larry and Jeff attempted to get Larry's golf club out of a dead man's coffin? F'ing priceless. They literally pried a gold club out of the man's cold dead hands.
I guess you had to see that episode. Brilliant writing. Larry David is my new idol. If you don't watch it - you are really missing out on a great show.
Off to do a few things before picking up O. Ciao!

Home again
O and I made it back home by noon. If you didn't listen to <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/004860.php#004860"><b>my audioblog post</b></a> earlier, I mentioned that O fell asleep on the ride to P's office. I forgot I had given her a lollipop when we got started. When we got to P's office, she woke up and looked pretty groggy. As I am looking at her in the rear view mirror, I noticed that she was all wet along her left cheek. It was at that point I remembered about the lollipop. She was all slobbery - the poor kid. Thank goodness I travel with wipes. I must have used about 6 of them on her. Luckily, since it was raining, she was wearing her raincoat! I didn't have to worry about her coat getting all wet.
Once we got home, I had to give her another breathing treatment. Man - that stuff makes her so jumpy and jittery. I really would love for her to just calm the hell down and rest for a little while. I guess the nap and medication just perked her up - Yippie.
I am going to hang on the couch and hopefully catch a snooze. Later!

Not going to be a good day
P just called from work. He asked how I was doing and I said I was exhausted. He paused for a moment and said "I am about to make your day more difficult. I locked my keys in the car." He felt so bad and kept apologizing. It would be funny if I wasn't so damn grumpy.
I have to drive up there (35 minutes away), unlock the car then drive back home. Normally, he would catch a ride home after work with one of the guys. But, he has a carload of Girl Scout cookies to deliver to my Mom's house and he needs to fix one of her toilets. Plus - he needs to drive his dad to a medical procedure tomorrow morning.. early tomorrow morning.
This is not going to be a good day. I need more coffee.

Today's Horoscope
Gemini Horoscope
Thu Mar. 4, 2004
The only good thing about being on an emotional roller coaster is that you never feel the same way for long. One moment you're up, the next you're down. You can't seem to figure out just what it is you want today. Rather than bringing your loved ones along on this wild ride, why not take some time away from your usual environment. You'll be a lot better off on your own. And who knows? Something more important may come out of these few moments of solitude!
<i>Heh - you think? </i>

Huh?
I think I have had about 3 hours of sleep. O woke up around midnight, coughing big time. P brought her into the bathroom for some steam and then we gave her a breathing treatment. I tucked her back into bed then P and I went to bed. She came into my room around 2am-ish, crying and wanting to come into our bed. I just let her climb in so we could both try to get some sleep. Well, I think P and O got some sleep - I got kicked and coughed on for most of the night. At 6am, P's alarm went off and we all ended up getting up at that time. M got up at 630.
I can't wait to get M off to school so I can go BACK to bed. I will drag O in with me. Obviously, she won't be going to school today.
::::yawning:::: I'm so tired....

Medical Article
P found <a href="http://www.ajc.com/health/content/shared/health/ap/ap_story.html/Health/AP.V4811.AP-Earaches-Antibi.html"target=_blank>this link</a> regarding ear infections in children. Basically, the article states that the two leading medical groups (AAP and AAFP) are expected to recommend this spring that doctors stop treating most ear infections in children with antibiotics, federal health officials said Tuesday
Further in the article is this:
<i>About half of all antibiotics prescribed to preschool children are for treating ear infections. Health officials believe if they can reduce child antibiotic use for such infections, they can stop the rise of antibiotic-resistant germs created by overuse of the drugs.
"It will mark a dramatic change in appropriate antibiotic use,'' said Dr. Richard Besser, acting chief of the meningitis and special pathogens branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Practice must be formally approved by the medical bodies before they are published for doctors.</i>
I have to say that I do agree with the article. I hate the fact I had to give O so many different antibiotics for her ear infections. In her situation, the damn infections never went away - even with medication. Last year, she had what seemed to be one very long ear infection. The pediatrician and I figured that she had about 7 or 8 infections between October and June. That's approximately one a month. She would never recover fully from one when she would get hit with another. She was taking all different kinds of antibiotics - amoxicillin, augmentin, zithromax and a couple others that were even stronger. Finally, we (P and I) decided to have O get ear tubes. They are wonderful. She gets colds but nothing, <B>nothing</B> like she used to get last year.. no more midnight trips to the ER with 104 fevers and vomiting... thank God.
<i>About 10 million prescriptions each year are written for ear infections in children of all ages.
A specific definition for doctors of what constitutes a serious ear infection also is expected to reduce antibiotic overuse.
"Antibiotics only will be considered if it's truly acute otitis media and not every abnormal-appearing ear," Lieberthal said.
Medical studies have found the antibiotics do very little for a child's ear infection pain. Common painkillers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofren are effective for that, said Lieberthal, also a pediatrician for Kaiser Permanente in Panorama City, Calif.
"Since the discovery of penicillin, when there is a bacterial infection, antibiotics are given,'' Lieberthal said. "Because of the increasing resistance of common bacteria to antibiotics, the importance of limiting their use is essential.'' </i>
Did anyone read "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0451169530/qid=1078329681/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3/102-8390133-8664923">The Stand</a>" by Stephen King? Most of the world gets wiped out by a super germ, unstoppable by antibiotics.
Creepy indeed.

Check out <a href="http://blog.akacooties.com/archives/001839.shtml#001839"target=_blank>this link</a> for a new drinking game based upon TLC's show <a href="http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/cleansweep/cleansweep.html">Clean Sweep</a>. I know I would be loaded in about 20 minutes!

Down and Out
Remember I posted about <a href="http://www.katespot.com/archives/004843.php#004843">O getting a cold</a>? Well, it's still hanging around today. She had another breathing treatment this morning. She was also complaining about her right ear hurting. I decided to give her a dose of motrin for the pain. She is usually a trooper for sticking it out so when she actually <i>does</i> complain, we give her the motrin.
It did stop raining but it's all soggy outside. She is lounging in M's beanbag chair and watching a Wiggles dvd - Space Dancing. This way, I can get some laundry finished up and she will lay down and relax for 10 or 15 minutes. Heh.

Interesting
I am getting my crockpot set up for dinner tonight (sauce and meatballs). I pulled some frozen tomato sauce and sausages out of my freezer, opened up the plastic container and find this:

I guess I filled the container so full that, while in the freezing process, the lid must have been pressing against the sauce. Weird!

Bed? Nahhhhhhhhh
I really should get some sleep. But, it's finally quiet in the house - I just want to watch tv and eat a couple Girl Scout cookies!

Too good to last
Well, I didn't think it would last.. but it doesn't hurt to hope. It looks like rain for the next two days. Mind you, it will still be in the mid-sixties but raining. Ick.
In other news, O started to wheeze and cough tonight. Damn. We fired up the nebulizer and gave her a breathing treatment with albuterol and pulmicort (steriod). Her nose was a mess - alternating between being runny and being stuffy. We gave her Nasonex as well as an OTC medication to dry up her nose. She is <i>flying</i> right now, full of energy and her cheeks are bright red. In fact, it looks like I drew two red rouge circles on her cheeks. Very weird. I am sure she will go to bed soon - say somewhere around midnight!

Music
Has anyone heard of <a href="http://www.loslonelyboys.org/cms/home.html">Los Lonely Boys</a>? I heard a commercial on television last night that advertised their new cd. I loved their sound - a cross between Stevie Ray Vaughn and Santana. Go listen to a clip of their new song "Heaven" - it's on their home page. I think I might just buy this cd!

Another incredible day

Wow - just wow. O and I went back to the playground today after she was done with school. We met up with a few of her schoolmates there too. She played and played... and played some more! I think she is played out!

It's Monday
Already?? Wasn't it just Friday like three minutes ago?? Sheesh....
Saturday night was good - we watched Charlie's Angels 2. Geez, what a load of crap. It was literally a movie with unbelievable stunts created completely by special effects. YAWN.
Sunday was fairly uneventful. We all went to church - I had to teach M's class and O had fun in the preschool class.. When we got home, we goofed around for a little while then by 1130am, one of her buddies, who happens to be a neighbor, came up to see if M could play. She took off on her bike and they went down to his house - three houses away. Around 130pm, I got a call from <i>my</i> friend and O and I went to her house so O could play with her little buddy. P stayed home and made sure the couch stayed busy. Heh.
O and I didn't get home until 530pm! I made burgers for dinner along with oven fries and carrots. The kids had fruit for dessert. I had to give them baths again - they were some seriously stinky children!!!
Once they got to bed, I played Zoo Tycoon for a while. It's a lot of fun and it's certainly relaxing for me. P surfed on the other computer and we had a quiet evening. It was nice.
Today is going to be <b>60 degrees</b>!! Woohooo! More time at the playground! I have errands to run while the boogers are at school - including some food shopping, the post office, returns at WallyMart and the library. I had better skip to my lou and get moving!
Have a great day!
