MP3

Does anyone use/subscribe to this service? I am curious about it. The one thing I never liked about Napster was ther fact that other users could access MY hard drive. Is MP3.com the same way?
Thanks in advance! :cheerful:

With the whole Napster situation, it has gone even less in the direction of a centralized system and more toward peer-to-peer file sharing where users are exchanging mp3 files between their personal computers. Even though these programs let you specify the directories on your computer that other people can access, it does open a door to your system, which is scary.

I am not familiar with mp3.com. We use WinMX, but wouldn't do it without having a firewall in place which blocks all ports on our computer except those specifically being used for music upload and download.

We use winmx and it's great! Try it... crzylady_mtplodder is what we go by there.

Strange... I had never heard of mp3.com (at least not ever been there) before checking it out this morning when I read your post. And just now I got an advertisement type e-mail from... you got it -- mp3.com. They must use a cookie to gather e-mail addresses of visitors -- is that possible?

Bad, bad site.

use kazaa, its completely peer to peer and you can turn off file sharing access so people can't get to your system
